This piece is extremelly dificult...double scales are horrible to play...but he achieves to get music and beauty...No doubt he was one of the greatest pianist ever!
Simply stunning Op 25 no 7! One of Chopins most beautiful and enigmatic melodies, perfectly suited to the extraordinary poetic gifts of this wonderful artist. My eyes fill with tears every time I hear him play it.
Your "son of a goat" remark, billiguns, sounds completely insincere, when uttered in conjunction with the Chopin's ghost reference. :-) 25.6 is a trifle, which Richter plays probably better, with greater fluidity than anybody else, and his rendition of the 25.7 is beyond comparison in its subtlety, eloquence, and depth. How anybody could not like it?! :-)
Incidentally, "son of a goat" in French is "Fils d'un bouc," NOT "chacun a son gout." Richter is one of the four or five greatest pianists I have ever heard.
I adore Richter, but I do not care for this performance; I think it lacks the spirit of Chopin. Listen to Josef Lhevinne and Wilhelm Backhaus to see what I mean. Chacun a son gout!
Во-первых, я не музыкант. Во-вторых, вообще-то и Вам лучше не умничать там, где умничать не стоит. Если не видите разницу между Фридманом и Рихтером и не понимаете сути поста, с которым я согласился, это Ваши личные проблемы.
Backhaus and a young Megumi Fugita many years ago in a recital had the best thirds for me and of course Pletnevs legiondary recording. Megumi was the the favourite and long standing pupil of Irina zaritskya.
Well, it would be preposterous to criticize someone for dying early, unless it is your slave. :-) And I love Kapell's playing - the playing of a mensch.
Beautifully played, but don't criticize great artists like Lipatti and Kapell for dying early,as the would rather not have. They were both great, and would have been up there with the greatest ever-had they lived a little longer.Legendary is not bad though.
The clarity, lightness of touch and speed in Richter's g#-Minor Etude are dazzling; but the c#-Minor Etude is a true musical treasure, up to par with Lipatti's legendary Chopin recordings.
said "up to par with Lipatti" is the heights award, near to said: Good is playing now. Not to believe this is like blasphemy. Listen to Lipatti on youtube, please, and keep quite.
I do not need YT to listen to Lipatti. And no amount of marketing hype, built on the man's early demise, will force me to admire his detached, icy Chopin. Enjoy it, if you like, and thank the creator for having such a poor language-translating tool, which makes my going into the greater detail useless. YOU keep quite! :-)
Detached? Icy? I respect your opinion, but the emotional quality of Lipatti's Chopin shouldn't even be subject to debate; very few have ever achieved such a purity of expression
The only emotion I care about, helian, is of finding a $100 bill. This is what Chopin's music is about, which Lipatti walks through with his gaze fixed in the sky, missing the treasures under his feet. -:) If that is not detached, then perhaps "dull" would be more appropriate term. Unfortunately, I respect opinions that I agree with, but do understand where you are coming from, having been there myself. :-) Give DL's Chopin another try in a couple of years, and we shall discuss it again :-).

@newFranzFerencLiszt There is a lot of beauty outside of it too :-) Otherwise, agreed.

Insane.....just insane, and I mean that in the best possible way, maybe I can play thirds like this in another 10 lifetimes, maybe.

il miglior pianista che il secolo scorso poteva donarci. Un fenomeno di bravura, tecnica e interpretazione. Il sogno di molti pianisti.

@aryanpianist I think doesnt need to improve technique, its already at asian level. He just lacks talent for a nice sound and is a clown

Thats great, but does anybody know Elisso Virsaladze, Richter loved her und she adored Richter....
I Think, that the "terz-etüde" Elisso plays in a more amazing way, than Richter does!

"Chacun a son gout" is French for "Each to his own taste." I have no idea what you're talking about. Nobody admires the great Richter more than I do.

Ignaz Friedman

Oh... I see - Friedman...
But what's about "Absolutely"?
Did you hear Friedman playing Op. 25?

I mean I absolutely agree with the statement of billyguns 2above
There is a recording of this etude by Friedman, it is ingenious.

Вообще-то раньше в России молодых музыкантов учили уважать великих пианистов, а не просто поддакивать не очень умным комментариям...

I consider Lipatti's playing that of a "mensch", too...even more so than Kapell's.
Lipatti's Chopin is detached from the instrument, but never from music
