One thing that annoyed me about that movie is a meteor would not cast a shadow as it came to impact, the second it would get even close to touching the atmosphere it would glow white hot and have a blinding white flash similar to a gargantuan nuclear explosion.
But then again the shadow effect does look cool which is the whole point of the movie.
