@tdaness Thats actually a Lopezi. But yea, we got him from someone at a frag swap that was tearing down their tank due to money issues. Probably better off in our 180 than going to a store...
The modules are about $425-$475 a piece. I have 3 over this tank. It's nearly paid for itself already in electricity savings and excess heat generation in the house during A/C season though. I used to run a 3x250w metal halide with 4x96w PC bulb fixture before. I took measurements of the power consumption with a kill-a-watt meter before and after the swap...difference is amazing.
@klc317 yeah except all that jumping and obvious split-second panicking. but who cares, right!? they lose their memory in a few seconds anyway! scaring them to heart attack level every so often their entire lives is a small price to pay! look how AWESOME that effect is!
please. doesn't matter how long they remember it, you're still scaring the shit out of them. i can tell immediately.
@katyagorm That's rediculous. I don't know what your eyes see, but after reading your nutso comment, I went back and watched the video again for "jumping and panicking" fish. You're dumb, but I mean that in the nicest way possible. :)
@katyagorm there is litterally zero panic or scared behavior from the fish at all... If you've owned a fish tank you'd know what a scared or startled fish does. They are all chill as a cucumber, even the clowns are comfortable and swimming around (They get nice and cozy inside their anemone if they feel vulnerable).
how high above the water do you have the modules and are they turned long ways tank just looks fantastic the color is perfect. Could you post a look at the lights.
@bluesking62 They are about 14" or so above the surface. And no, I don't have them turned longways. They seem to have enough spread to hang them normally. I may try to take a video of the lights without the canopy on soon.
I don't know if its the music or the fact that your fish don't seem to be at each others throats, or the thunderstorm or what, but that is the most relaxing reef tank I've ever seen. I'm anxiously awaiting my AI Sol Blue to come (arrives tomorrow) so that I too can shed the shackles of metal halides ;) It will be my first LED system. Anyway, fantastic tank and great video.
@chrisaquarium Thanks, and yea...it's very relaxing. I've turned my focus more towards a flowing soft coral type tank as opposed to an SPS tank. More action and much less tedious maintenance.
@RelaxingReef They are the Aqua Illuminations Sol Blue modules. I have 3 over this 180 and they do a good job but we don't have any SPS, mainly just softy/aggressive corals that aren't hugely light hungry. You could probably get by with 1 on a 60G cube for a similar setup, you'd just have to play with the height a little to get good coverage over the 2x2x2 area.
Tank is a 180G...I have 3 modules over it. As you can see we have a mainly softie, mixed non SPS aquarium....everything is doing great so far and its been 4 months. I actually don't have the lights anywhere near 100% either. I'd have to look at my current settings but I think its somewhere around 70% during the mid-day period. Honestly, its one of the better investments we've made for the aquarium. And a huge reduction in electricity usage and heat from the metal halides we had before.
Try using a manual white balance on the camera. This camera is trying to adjust the balance to make the blue white.

@my89tube Doesn't seem to bother them. They just continue on with whatever they are up to.

beautiful tank! I am looking into getting some of these modules. How many do you think I would need for a 120 gallon tank?
