Namahana? Can someone translate please? I would also like to understand the lyric to understand the song too. It sound so beautiful, it makes my heart ache, yet I think I am missing one touch that will connect me with the song as one, that is the meaning of the lyric.

When I maneuver, (I reach) the water's edge. I mistook a person, For someone else, There on my bosom. Tell the story, Of Halala of the bird-beak.
Someone wanted to know what the song was about..here is the translation: There at He‘eia, On the wave surfing. Surfing in the crest, Going out on the backwash. When I maneuver, (I reach) the water's edge. I mistook a person, For someone else, There on my bosom. Tell the story, Of Halala of the bird-beak.
i heard dis song lots of times on kapa radio....but i neva new da name and who sang it but now i do ...never remove dis song............much luv and alohaz from DA BIG ISLAND
@Riscva Hmm...well you go ahead and get in touch with your roots, but my roots are all from Europe (I think, my mom doesn't exactly know where her birth mother is from) and since I'm not such a fan of Scottish, Irish, Italian or Spanish (well, kinda Spanish) music, I'm gonna stick to this (oh yeah I left out French hehe, that was quite dumb because I think I'm more French than anything else) anyway, mahalo from Canada
I've lived in Hawaii most my life, but of course I don't speak Hawaiian, can someone tell me what this song is about. This is the best version I've ever heard. Thanks
@srtb1 ok first I just wanna say how lucky you are to have lived in hawaii! I've been twice, and last time was three years ago.now, he'eia I haven't a clue what it means, but the song is about nature, I think (correct me if I'm wrong cuz once again three years since I've been)
@srtb1 No! He'eia Bay in Keauhou, Kona on the Big Island. Kalakaua lived just down Ali'i Drive from there, and this is where he went for the romantic interlude, alluded to in the song...a pretty little bay, immediately north of Keauhou Bay...look at CYRIL PAHINUI's music videos for this song, you can recognize it from those scenes.
thank you! and i've been there when i was a kid. I will say kona is one of the most beautiful places on earth, cant wait to take my wife there. Thank you!
My Hawaiian girlfriend introduced this haole to Hapa in 2007. I can't let a day go by without a Hapa fix. Thanks Barry, Nathan, Charles & Keli'I for creating the greatest music on earth! Mahalo plenny!
Thank you sooooooooo much for posting this. My husband and I celebrated our 10 yr wedding anniversary this summer in Maui and heard this song driving back to the airport. This song brings back such beautiful images of Maui!
