I don't think they should have performed the surgery on her at this size. She was over 900 lbs, and very ill. Twelve days after the surgery, she started to experience chest pain and shortness of breath. Soon after that, she went to full cardiac arrest, a massive heartattack and died. Her body was not able to handle the surgery. Poor woman. It's sad but, it also serves as a warning to people who are overweight and getting heavier by the week. TURN yourself around before it's too late to change.

i was so sad when i watched last night on t.v about her fight with her weight. i don't understand why they didn't first start her on a diet and then waited a couple of months for them to perform surgery. i think that would of been the best way to go about it. her story inspired me, i'm a big girl my self and just watching her last night it made me wanna change my eating habbits before it gets out of control. i want to be around to watch my kids grow, but you never know when is ur time to go.

They get that fat from eating. That is what the By-Pass surgery does - keeps them from eating huge amounts. The stomach is left so it only holds abour 4 ozs. They can't eat sugar are they get "Dumping sickness" because part of the intestines are by-passed.
Sadly, 50% of people who have the surgery gain all the weight back again after two years, when they've "stretched out" their stomachs. It isn't a "cure all."

What I am is EDUCATED in the field of obesity. For all of you who think someone who weights 300,400,500 or more lbs just needs to contol themselves...you could not be more wrong. I think it has more to do with genetics. I was adopted by a skinny family and was the only fattie. My mom was a nurse and very strict about food. I became bulimic by 6 yrs old and anorexic by 14 yrs old. My period stopped at 20 yrs old. I started eating healthy food (less than 2,000 cal a day) and gained 35 lbs in a month! I learned that restricting calories only makes you fatter. I recommend being active 1 to 3 hours a day and eat food for nutrition, not low calorie.

I am Renee's cousin. No one is mentioning that 4 years ago Renee was walking and active. She was hit by a drunk driver. The accident left her severly disabled and almost severed her leg, she had other severe injuries that kep her bed ridden. We did the best we could to help her but without insurance no one would help. Anyone who is overweight and is disabled know it is not easy to diet and "exercise". The hateful things people say just add more grief to our family & her daughters.

Okay to explain Renee's condition is me, Monique, her neice. I lived with Renee and took care of her. She was over weight when she got hit and then after she got hit she gained more weight because she was bed written and it messed up that little thing in your brain that tells you you are full. Its not her fault that this happened to her. She was up and walking around and taking us to parks before she was hit. She was a good person. A lot of people in our family are over weight.

when i was growing up my mom had a friend who was in a car crash wich made that amputate a leg and the other leg in a permenent cast she ended up in a horrible depression leaving her at about 500 pounds it was so sad but she was the ncest lady

They get that fat from eating. That is what the By-Pass surgery does - keeps them from eating huge amounts. The stomach is left so it only holds abour 4 ozs. They can't eat sugar are they get "Dumping sickness" because part of the intestines are by-passed.
Sadly, 50% of people who have the surgery gain all the weight back again after two years, when they've "stretched out" their stomachs. It isn't a "cure all."

I think it has more to do with genetics. I was adopted by a skinny family and was the only fattie. My mom was a nurse and very strict about food. I became bulimic by 6 yrs old and anorexic by 14 yrs old. My period stopped at 20 yrs old. I started eating healthy food (less than 2,000 cal a day) and gained 35 lbs in a month! I learned that restricting calories only makes you fatter. I recommend being active 1 to 3 hours a day and eat food for nutrition, not low calorie.

I saw this on telly, why didn't they put her on a diet before the operation? If no-one fed her the ridiculous amounts of food she ate, she wouldn't have been able to pop out to the supermarket would she? Her family were as much to blame as her.

I am Renee's cousin. No one is mentioning that 4 years ago Renee was walking and active. She was hit by a drunk driver. The accident left her severly disabled and almost severed her leg, she had other severe injuries that kep her bed ridden. We did the best we could to help her but without insurance no one would help. Anyone who is overweight and is disabled know it is not easy to diet and "exercise". The hateful things people say just add more grief to our family & her daughters.

BUT Yes, I think once people reach a certain weight e.g 15 stones, a health service squad should take them against their will to a boot camp, to reduce their weight for the good of mankind. I think thats the only way morbid obesity can be prevented- extreme measures and curtailing of rights to binge eat.

I watched about this woman last night on Channel 4. It was such a shame she died I wanted to see her slim and happy - it was her poor kids that I felt most sorry for. Well done to the 13yr old daughter for keeping an eye on her and her younger sisters weight and making sure that this never happens to them.

i just watched the uk screening of this, sure its sad but thts wot happens when u r 64 stone. She kept saying it wasnt her fault.. HOW? she got to 64 stone, u dont just wake up like tht it takes years. if she had children y didnt she try and lose weight with dieting. she had all the warnings and still got bigger. I think its a disgrace tht she required more than ten men to move her, firemen as well. The emergency services hav better things to do.

The documentary about rene has just been screened in the Uk I was shocked and greatly sadened by her death, but I am more upset and angry at the horrible disgusting people that have posted on here, Its no wonder this world is in such a horrible mess with depraved morons like you lot, if you cannot say anything nice then stay beneath your stone! Okay to explain Renee's condition is me, Monique, her neice. I lived with Renee and took care of her. She was over weight when she got hit and then after she got hit she gained more weight because she was bed written and it messed up that little thing in your brain that tells you you are full. Its not her fault that this happened to her. She was up and walking around and taking us to parks before she was hit. She was a good person. A lot of people in our family are over weight.

But that's not what happened to her. Her accident damaged her leg, not her brain or a gland. She gained weight because it left her immobile.

(Part I) We all have a purpose in life. I firmly believe Renee's purpose was to remind us all that there is always hope. More importantly, Renee's purpose was to make the medical community and insurance companies aware that something needs to be done before it's too late. She made her story of obesity public, to let others know that there are doctors and hospitals willing to help those suffering from super obesity. She wanted to inspire others to get the help they need and deserve.

(Part II) I've known Renee for a year and a half, and during that time, she held out no hope that she would ever have a normal future. From the day she arrived at the hospital, she felt hope, for the first time, and she was so happy. So many people have supported her through this, sending her cards and good wishes. I know how much she appreciated the outpouring of love and support, and know her family and friends are comforted in the midst of their sorrow and pain.

Obesity is a disease. It is also genetic. For the average person it is easy to maintain a healthy weight with diet and excersize.
