Need Help - not sure what i am doing wrong but i can't repel this guy at all - have tried using the Supremacy Blade and True Devil Slicer among other long swords... I aim for the head and it does flinch but when I can never beat him - tried the tricks of using the dragon bomb on his back, using the giant spikes on the gate .. but cant beat him... Is there a better strategy???

if you damage it enough the first time and time runs out it will be repelled if you didnt well...you fail basically but if you fight it after you repel it the first time you should kill it the second time

umm no...your second time you probably just got lucky. Lao retains no damage unlike other elder dragons, you repel him thats it his health refills.

you can kill lao. i've done it. the thing which confuses everybody is, you cannot kill him untill he reaches the final area. if u continue flinching him over and over untill his hp reaches 1000(that should be about 20+ flinches in a row) his hp will stop decreasing if hes not at the final area.

actually the damage isn't retained. this is a common misconception of many hunters.

that rule only applies in the elder quests, where if you made the elder dragon flee, the damage you have dealt it will be retained.

The graphics are different, and in MH2 there is also Lao Shan Lung at night, when in the Fortress it's raining. That's why it rains. It looks different but it has only another aspect, because of PS2 graphics... This is just the normal Ashen Lao Shan Lung, also called Azure Lao Shan Lung. Do you understand now?

if u have got some friends to do it with all of you get decent fire or dragon weapons and just keep hitting its head. If you are trying it on your own get a weapon with good sharpness and high raw and dragon damage. Also when it reaches the fortress and stands up hit its stomach with bombs. hope this helps :)

Ok hey, I've been playing MHF2 for a while now and none of my friends have it so I've had to solo everything so far and it looks like I'll have to continue to do so. I'm currently and HR4 but need to solo Ashen Lao to get to HR5. fight the elder dragon named kushala daora, it easy (but it's wind is pissing annoying), it gives about 5 elder bones to mine up dark piece/stone, which can craft into dark weapon (early dragon elemented but sucky sharpness) and dark armor (no skill. wow.)
