Probably because it needs to be defragged and you need CCleaner.

DO yourself a big favorite and install Linux (preferably Ubuntu, which is what I use). Your computer will be wicked awesome and never be slow again! It's super secure, very customizable, and it's FREE!!! The only thing you gotta do is updates, that's all, and run Ubuntu Tweak to remove the cache and stuff.

@austinramsay , First of all your i3 is not a Quad Core its a Dual Core wityh hyper threading and booting up windows 7 has far more to do with your boot drive access time than your processor... for example a 64GB Kingston Sv100 SSD will boot up windows 7 in less than half the time it takes a standard 7200rpm HDD , You like the typical mac user are misinformed.

BIOS takes longer to POST than 2 seconds, unless you mean after it's gone past POST in which case I'm guessing you're using some sort of SSD RAID set up for such impressive boot speeds, not that boot speeds mean all that much, it's how things are done once it's all loaded and ready to actually WORK. Oh, and XP was prone to slow boots on an older install. He needs a format methinks.

My windows XP on laptop are much faster startup than Vista and 7. Windows xp on my laptop startup about 20 second. and windows 7 on my laptop startup in about 50 second.
