  • They originally wanted to release Shenmue for the Saturn, and by the sight of this i can see theyve gone pretty far to. In another video i even saw cutscenes from Shenmue 2 in Saturn quality.

  • I know what can do the Saturn and let me say: THIS IS A MIRACLE.

  • @ric84italy Considering what AM2 already did in Virtua Fighter 2 (really high resolution, detailed characters and 60fps), it seems Yu Suzuki's team had really mastered the Saturn capabilities. The only problem, it seems, would have been the framerate - there is a lot of slowdown in the video, although they would probably have optmized it. Still, comparing it to any PS1 or N64 game, it would have blown everyone's mind - these are the most impressive graphics from that era.

  • @CervantesXV Yeah, Saturn was really impressive if pushed.

  • This could've sold some Saturns, had it been released. This looks better than Sony and Nintendos offerings, and many original release era Dreamcast games. The Saturn was just way ahead of it's time, that's all..

  • Sega saturns evidently kick the crap out of the PSone...eyes and moving lips...even Metal Gear solid didnt have those features in their characters

  • i dont think psone could have done this. saturn really was stronger

  • saturn graphick sucks so much......

    playstation #1

  • @RichiRoemsch

I love the PS1, and I didn't get a Saturn until well after it was dead, but please show me a PS1 game with this level of animation. Infact hey, hows those crippled Street Fighter ports holding up? :D

  • @strykah92

    legacy of kain soul reaver!?

  • @RichiRoemsch

Are you kidding me? The PS1 version of Soul Reaver was stiff as hell compared to the Dreamcast version.

  • ps1 1994 release

    dc 1998 release............

  • @strykah92

    dreamcast 120 bit

    ps1 32

    ...

  • @RichiRoemsch

Um, yeah, you gave me that excuse 6 months ago.

  • @strykah92

    and?????

  • This is real footage but the only footage i know off

  • @tom11zz884 LMAO im sorry sir but your wrong, you can just tell from the video that they are 32 bit saturn textures and graphics. The DC is far more powerful than what is displayed here

  • @PatrickIngham21 I Remember reading in a Sega magazine that they were inthe early stages of developing Shenmue...and they showed these screenshots

  • @tom11zz884 you cant always believe magazines, they get it wrong sometimes.

trust me mate it is widely known (even yu suzuki stated it) that it was in development since 1994 and was going to be released on Saturn

  • @PatrickIngham21 I've heard they produced on Saturn even till the end of Shenmue II

  • @PatrickIngham21 Yeah hes right it was a Saturn game to begin with hence why in the house he has a Sega Saturn in the cupboard :)

  • @PatrickIngham21 yeah, so these images are for the saturn version unless you are now stating yu suzuki and am2 are liars

  • @drunkensailor112 i never said this wasent the saturn version? it quite clearly IS for the saturn!

  • men was a beta never relased if you complete shenmu 2 in a special date you can unlook a video of the version never relased for sega satur was just a beta version for saturn

  • @tom11zz884:

    This is Saturn.

Some years ago they found the Beta disc's:

Goolge it: SHENMUE 1 BETA 0.400

  • @tom11zz884 you idiot shenmue was in development for the saturn but was scraped due to the saturn failing so yu suzuki moved his vision to the dreamcast, geez get your facts straight.

  • @sonothehedgehog Go to hell jerk.

  • It may or may not work depending on peoples opinions but they could of made a 2D side scroller on saturn? :p

  • Seeing this makes me feel really bad for sega.

  • It would of been awsome if it was accualy out! I would buy a saturn along with it lol.

  • i'm glad the shenmues were released on the dreamcast, it just makes the graphics that much better and brings the world even more to life, now shenmue 3 on the 360 and ps3....imagine the potential!

  • @GreenSmog17 There was a sega interview and they clearly said they wont bring out shenmue 3. Well they said they dont have any plans yet.."yet" There is a 10% chance it will come out.

  • 0:49 it dint look like is should hurt.its like put him in sleep hole lolz accept right in his chess

  • And we all thought NiGHTS was impressive on the Saturn..... Shame the Saturn was a failure :(

  • This is the real power of the sega saturn!

  • I've never played a Saturn, but it looks WAY more powerful than the PS1.

  • probably is but the power was never properly utilized

  • these graphics is not that bad for the SATURN its not 360 good but its close Lol

  • They were the same stuff!

    But the had diferen aspects!

  • Hell yeah, at full power the Saturn was more like 48-bit than 32-bit.

  • @strykah92 You don't know what the number of bits refers to. stop talking.

  • Nooooo way, what you've done is you've seen youtube videos of Saturn games and been blown away by the clean graphics-the Saturn had the sharpest output compared to the PS1 and the N64's output that was lumbered with anti-aliasing, filtering and texture rescaling to prevent 'pixellisation', when the texture cache was already so limiting making games look blurry, but believe me, the Saturn was the worst of the three in graphical performance and yes, I own one. Even 720i VF2 looks relatively bad!

  • @Nintendomanwill

That low poly count is from the ridiculously convoluted architecture, not weakness on the system's part. Since the system was so hard to program, developers would often use only one of its two CPUs and write their games in high-level languages like C (!), giving games far worse graphics than their PlayStation and Nintendo 64 equivalents. If you look at the specs, though, it's a very powerful system.

  • Do you think this Saturn Shenmue demo is real then? The textures on the faces look better than they do in most arena fighting games from that generation.

Also, Saturn Quake was by a skilled dev yet it still couldn't do 3d without choppy gameplay. I actually enjoy the N64 Quake (1) more, hampered though it was by lacklustre porting. Saturn may have had a lot of raw power but it was obviously unsuited for 3d gameplay.

LOL at some Saturn games being written in C! Rather amateurish.

  • >Do you think this Saturn Shenmue demo is real then?

Of course. Disregarding the fact that this video is a bonus from Shenmue 2, and is PRESENTED as footage of an early Saturn build, it's obvious that it's running on a Saturn. Just look at it - it's in 320x240 (or some similarly low resolution), the textures are all blocky and aliased (you would NOT get that on a Dreamcast), and the polygon count - while considerably high - is far lower than that of the finished game.

    It's on the Saturn.

  • @tylerfrump15

It was, but it was so hard to program that nobody was able to use that power effectively during the system's life cycle. Shame, really.

  • Wow it seriously is amazing what the Saturn can do.

  • Man, thats quite impressive for a saturn game. I guessing the developers actually made use of the multiple processors in the saturn
