I realize my username makes my opinion biased, and no disrespect to Dan or Nazareth, but Dan can't sing at all these days, not even half of Brian's current vocal power, although Dan in his prime was fucking awesome.
I have a Geordie accent and I can clearly tell when somebody claims to be Geordie but is from the likes of South Shields (e.g. that Alex girl from Big Brother 2011).
I’m not having a go at anyone claiming to be Geordie but the term just seems to get thrown round a lot nowadays.
It seems that the rest of Britain and the world think that to be a Geordie all you have to do is live in the North East of England, although Gateshead is literally just across the river Tyne and their accent is for the most part identical to people from Newcastle, it is a DIFFERENT city and so they are not real Geordie’s. I have lived in Newcastle most of my life,
PS a little fact that nobody outside of Newcastle seems to know is that Geordie's are really people from Newcastle Upon Tyne, ie Wallsend, Byker, Elswick, Fenham, etc... Gateshead, South Shields, Durham, etc are completely different places and therefore the people that live in these areas shouldn’t be classed as real Geordie’s (for instance people from South Shields are actually called “Sand Dancers”, people from Sunderland are called “Mackems”).
@wkdmage I was born in North Shields in 1958 and have never moved away. I was always told that to be a Geordie you had to be born on the north side of the river Tyne and within the sound of the shipyards.
“It's alreet, am alreet, a think a broke me leg but am alreet. A towld ya I shuda brought me fucking glasses man! Is me hat doon there, that would be good? ee the blood went strite to me heed with that one. (drops hat) and owa again, thank you very much.”
There isn't exactly a comprehensive dictionary for Geordie words so I've wrote the Geordie version roughly how Brian said the words.
“It's alright, I'm alright. I think I broke my leg but im alright. I told you I should of brought my glasses! Is my hat down there, that would be good? The blood went straight to my head with that one. (drops hat) And over again, thank you very much.”
It makes you realize how great Angus is when you hear Brian sing with the Geordie guitarist. Shew! Angus is the perfect compliment for Brian's powerful voice and stage presence.
Brian says: "It's alright Im alright.. I think I've broke my leg, but Im alright. I told you I should of brought my friggin glasses man. Is my hat down there?.. that'll be gone! Eee the blood went straight to my head with that one!.."
This is correct to my hard ass Geordie background having lived here all my life & being raised in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne. I was at that very gig and witnessed Brian fall off the stage into the galley. Also, my uncle Derek is playing the Gibson Firebird!!! =]
Completely no matter whether with Geordie or AC/DC - Brian is a class for himself and also even today vocally very well on it. One is able to do this well on "Black ice" findin' out where he as sounds as since "Back in black" no more.
Songs from Geordie like "All because of you" and "Can you do it" are for me classics whom I love still today. Many thanks for this video from Germany.
"Ì think I broke me nose but i`m alright" ,AND THE BLOOD WENT STRAIGHT TO MY HEAD WITH THAT ONE, I SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT MY GLASSES, AND WHERE'S MY HAT? . I LIVED IN NORTHUMBERLAND FOR A FEW YEARS I HOPE I HELPED YOU OUT WITH THIS ONE.
Could somebody please tell an untaugt guy from germany what he is talking about at the end of this video? His accent is really a hard nut to crack! Does he say "Ì think I broke me nose but i`m alright"?
im geordie,. i'll translate "is all right, im all right, i think I broke my nose but im all right, I told you i think i should have brought my fricking glasses man, is that my hat down there" he kinda mumbled at the end so even I don't know what he said at the end
@Urmel667 YES HE SAID I THINK I BROKE MY NOSE BUT I A ALL RIGHT, HE ALSO SAID ,THE BLOOD WENT RIGHT TO MY HEAD WITH THAT ONE , AND I SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT MY GLASSES, AND HAS ANYBODY SEEN MY HAT ?
@Urmel667 yeah he says "it's alright, i'm alright - i think i broke my nose but i'm alright - I told you, i should have brought my frickin' glasses man - is my hat down there? - ee the blood went straight to my head with that one - I'm over again, thank you very much" haha. if your not from Newcastle, the Geordie accent can seem like waffle talk lol
@Urmel667 he says , i think i broke my nose but im alright ,i told you i should of brung my glasses is my hat down there, ee the blood went straight to my head with that one
Saw them appear at my local community centre in Wingate Co Durham about 71/72. they called themselves USA then, before they changed to "Geordie". nearly blew my eardrums out, so loud, but a great night.
A good question though, is how is he singing like that when to this day he can't sing Back in Black like he originally made it, it comes out raspy like his voice is currently with AC/DC I mean this is only like 6 years ago and his voice rasped over in '85..........
Well with the AC/DC songs he really belts them out so its harder on his voice, and in '85 yea his voice did change more rough I find, and then in '96 it went down hill but its back now search Classic Rock Cares and you'll see
I think after brian finishes the next album and tour I wish he and Geordie should come to the U.S.A. to like Carbondale ILLINIOS to the S.I.U. arena and other places to let us enjoy them to. also AC/DC should as well.
Brians voice sounds friggin' "glaight" when he sings down low, there's so much power, but I don't think he realizes it. Would like to hear him sing lower rather than up so high all the time.
Look at the enthusiasm from Brian! His voice is obviously a bit different these days, but he still sounds good and nails some high notes, and his lower range is awesome too. Great singer, great character.
Just to clear up all this stuff about when Brian Johnson re-united for comeback tour: Brian has actually continued to meet up with Geordie many times to play clubs and such while he isn't in studio or touring with AC/DC. He likes to keep singing with his old band. He's been playing with them since joining AC/DC and therefore shouldn't be seen as a one-band kinda man.
The guy sounds like Donald duck, terrible, always preferred Bon ... and he has nothing on Dan Mccafferty. Yup, that is all, thanks for reading then.

@happershrew Brian's awesome...as was Bon.
