  • Search in google for "goddess loves music" and you will find a link in British Library which has good information.

  • A panchari melam performance could be described as a layered pyramid; each of the five layers (kalam) is characterised by a specific tala (rhythm cycle) called talavattam, which is repeated according to the total time-frame of the performance. Each of the five kalam consists of a certain number of beats (akshara), these are 96, 48, 24, 12, and 6 respectively.

  • Do they folow the same improvisation pattern as Thayambaka or Panchavadyam? The same nature and flavor?

  • no thayambaka and panchvadyam are different from this. This is called chendamelam. no doubt in thayambaka too they use chenda but the notes are different

  • There is no such thing as "Chendamelam". This is "Panchari Melam". The other popluar Melams using Chenda are "Pandi Melam, Chembda Melam, and Dhruvam Melam"

  • The improvisation is totally different. Panchari Melam is the Mother of all melams, everything that is chenda based is derived from Panchari.
