  • So the whole piece, as we can hear on this recording, was really played in D-major (plus a half tone for the contemporary tuning) instead of the written C-major (+1/2 tone), as audible in the other versions posted on this channel. Thanks for posting it! ...I don't mention the (well fitting) pictures - even - thanks!

  • I suppose, this version is very close to what it was intended to be by the composer: Monteverdi required that the trumpets should be muted. The brass silencers, which were used at that time, were positioned more deep into the instrument than our normally today used ones and had a very special shape which caused that they (I don't know the reason for this) hightened the pitch of the instrument exactly one tone.

  • great!

I really like this Music, which is about 450 years old!

  • Excuse me Friend, this piece had its first performance in 1607. The composer was born in 1567. Nevertheless with his "toccata" Monteverdi write down a typical 5-part trumpet piece. Originally/traditionally this kind of music was played al improviso but may have sounded very similar even 50 years before. My best to you!

  • Oh well! I thought it was written in the middle of the XVth Century. Thank you for your explanations!

  • this is really great.

    inspiring!
