She always gets credit for creating that gamine, waif-like look, the unique, dramatic eye-makeup, short hair. But Edie had all of that before Twiggy did, which pisses me off. Being the flat beer may not be as exciting but it also has its advantages, like living a longer, healthier, and stable life. Edie couldn't be the fascinating person she was and survive; that's not just her tragedy, but the tragedy of the human condition. What I love about the 60's is that willingness to sacrifice oneself for the sake of expression and exploration. Today's society is so concerned with safeness and sanitisation that it forgets exactly what it is that's worth protecting.
Its funny because I find myself wearing a Twiggy t-shirt however, I do love Edie! I know more about her, I can relate to a lot of what she went through, and her style was flawless! I think Betsey Johnson said it best, "As London had their Twiggy, we had our Edie!"

It was really her personality and not just her look that makes her so iconic to this day, and makes her a star as well as a model.
