  • this song flashing back my memories of my late big brother when he is dying and said "i Love this song, can you repeat this again? this song is so calm and humble". Later on he is passed away only around 30 minutes later................ thanks for posting.

  • The link I hit said Eric Clapton. Go figure. This is beautiful.

  • A #1 hit for Les Baxter. It went to #10 in the United Kingdom and finished at #5 for the year 1955. This hit was a big part of music history. On July 9, Bill Haley and His Comets hit #1 with Rock Around the Clock, signifying the start of the Rock Era. This hit was at #4 at the time, so Les Baxter was there when the Rock Era started, along with Perez Prado, Nat "King" Cole, and Frank Sinatra.

  • My very favorite song as a young kid, still one of my all time favorites. Simply a classic

  • This song by Les Baxter has all the right ingredients to bring out emotions from our soul. The words, melody, arrangement, and instrumentation contribute to its magical aura. Many versions of this song exist and most, if not all are good, but for me this one is the best. Ron--Highway Stars Magazine

  • How refreshing to catch this version of U M

  • Les Baxter's "Unchained Melody" hit the No.2 spot in the US in May & June 1955

It was initially released in a 45 rpm vinyl which also featured "Blue Mirage" and "Lonely Wine".

The popularity of this album prompted the recording Co. to release "Unchained Melody" as a single.

Of the 4 songs in this album only "Unchained Melody" was released in CD format.

You can listen to the other 3 songs which has been posted in

    "attillathehan" channel.

  • Sweet!

I found this song in the 1955 chart @ billboardvideos.(net)

  • oh so lovely!

  • The most beautiful song ever written and Les Baxter had THE difinitive version. It became my favorite at 15 years old and remains so to this day. I think the Righteous Brothers ruined it when they recorded it. This is the most recorded song of all time.

  • @parsonsrules Actually the music was written by Alex North and the lyrics by Hy Zaret it was first recorded by Todd Duncan.

  • @InlineFury Acturally he never mentioned that Lex was the first, only that his/her opinion of Lex's song being the best version.

  • Is there any version of this that is more touching than this? I'll never forget the first time I heard this version of this tune. Brought tears to my eyes, and BIG lump to my throat!

  • A beautiful song, one of the pioneering songs of the 20th century. Brings memories to me of good times. My mother is ill with cancer and has been given months to live and I know after she is gone I will listen to this song and cry, but, that is what music is for... it allows us to grieve. I'm thankful that music exists.

  • This without a doubt is the best version of them all and Les Baxter's was the first. On the video of our 25th wedding anniversary, this was the closing song with similar graphics to what you're seeing on this video. It made for a perfect ending with the ocean and seagulls as the song ends. Love hearing this on my Seeburg jukebox.

  • Just wonderful Bob.

Thank you so much for shaing this beautiful version with Cole & I.

    Such romantic & relaxing listening.

Warm Hugs Always for you & Robby.

    Parker & Cole

  • It's just beautiful my sweetheart.

It's the 1st Song I've played since I left you & drove back to the coast.

I love you so much and can't wait to be back in your arms Friday night.

    Love,

    Your Robby *****Stars++++

  • Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A beautiful & romantic Song from the 1955 movie "Unchained"...This Les Baxter's version was played during the "Credits" for the film.....This later became the "Signature Song" for Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Bros...

    Bob

  • @Clof1959 thanks bob 4 sharing!

    nice week

  • Ohhh Bob, so LOVELY!!

Didnt knew him and that this is the original!!

    ITS WONDERFUL!!!*****

Have a good night my dear friend, Judie

  • Best song to come from a terrible movie "Unchained" starred Los Angeles football

star Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsh. The beautiful melodious song attracted viewers, but over sold a weak love story script

  • This beats The Righteous brothers remake by a long shot!

  • No, Les Baxter;s is the original. IT predates the RB"S version by TEN years.

    Les Baxter's-1955--Righteous BRos.-1965

  • Todd Duncan did a singing version of this around the same time as Les Baxter.

  • My understanding is that Todd Duncan sang it in a low budget movie called "Unchained" and that Les Baxter's rendition was heard during the credit sequence of that same movie.

  • I would like very much to hear the Todd Duncan version, but it seems like it's nowhere to be found. If anyone has it please post it.

  • Al Hibbler released this song in 1955. That was before the Righteous Brothers.

  • lol !!!!!! you made me crack up man! of course u r right, and cmulwee is an idiot

  • what the f*** are you talking about ??!!

  • would anyone like to marry me to this song?

I am 6ft dark and hansom.

  • Wonderful Video

    Hugs

  • There are thousands of versions of this very beautiful song by many talented singers and they all deserve props. This is the version I prefer as it seems to be the purest version.

  • Great Song!

    I like the video too...

Especially the clips from "Smallville" & "Serendipity".

  • I turned 16 in April of 1955 and had just gotten my driver's licence and my first car. I was dating a gorgeous little blonde at the time and I remember being parked on a hill overlooking the city lights below and this song came on the radio (May, '55)

    OMG! Great memories!!

  • Ricky Nelson recorded this in 1957-A beautiful version-especially considering he was only 16 or 17

  • In the days before people got prosecuted for peer to peer I grabbed about 200 versions of this song. My parents had it on a 78 when i was young, eventually I found Les Baxter version and this is it! Still my favourite version....

  • The best version of this beautiful song, imo!

Back in May 14, 1955, there were 3 versions of this on the U.S. bestselling record charts.

    They were:

#2 Les Baxter, Orch. Capitol Records.

    #5 Al Hibbler, Decca Records.

    #9 Roy Hamilton, Epic Records.

  • Les Baxter,Orchestra and Chorus did this version in the movie "Unchained", starring the former pro football player, Elwood "Crazy Legs" Hirsh in the early 19 50's

    -

  • According to wikipedia Les Baxter was#2, Al Hibbler #3 and Roy Hamilton was #6. I liked this version the best but I really liked Roy Hamilton's too. I've never heard a version I did'nt like. Incidentally, I was married in October of that year and I'm still chained, happily of course.

  • Billboard Music Weekly, "the bible of the recording industry" had them as I listed

.Billboard reported while all this activity was going on, going into much detail about how the records were faring.

Wikipedia is a latecomer to all this.

I have the same feeling about the song. It's very hard to ruin it. Also heard many different versions.

For example, Gene Vincent does a beautiful r&r rendition.

But Les Baxter will always have the edge in my heart! Mainly because he was there, first!

  • Wow!!!!!!!! So Beautiful ~~~ I cry with emotional heart felt love in it....

    ♥ ♫♪♫ ♥ ♫♫♪♫♫ ♥

  • ENCORE MOI SUPERBE VIDEO

  • 1955 when this song was recorded was my birth year. Nuts, I, too, hunger for my late mum and Dave. I would give away millions, if I had them to see them once again. Oh, Jesus.

  • Dedicated to my good friend and drinking buddy, Dave Marshall. I remember sitting on the balcony of a Feather's Hotel, Harare on my first day back in Zimbabwe, from Maputo, in June 1995. This song came onto the radio as we sat drinking, talking and laughing above the beerhall below.I was apart from Carol and my children and Dave cheered me up. Thanks boet. We'll meet again.

  • SWEEETA - Just like Agelina Balerina SWEEETA ! What a romantic version of the video you chose, such romantic graphics, hearts, kissing, embracing, quote "Love you babe, miss you". In fact it's the most romantic graphic version of all.

  • I don't think I would place this on my Island Top Ten. It used to be one of my most favourite, meaningful songs, but I don't care for it much now. There are much nicer songs out there.

  • This was WAY before the Righteous Brothers version. This is the original!

  • The best version of the song IMO. Shame it was so short, should have been longer.

  • merci superbe melodie excellente video

  • My mother was born in 1955, she's gone, and mother's day was very hard for me. I didn't even think of this song, and I accidently stumbled upon it. It made me cry and I actually feel better. Things happen in very mysterios ways.

  • God bless your mom.

  • The wonder of it all is that your mother will be with you as long as you wish it. I feel my fathers presence in my life every day. He passed away ten years ago. They never really leave us, because they know we would be too lonley.

  • Brother, if this doesn't take me back to those high school dances and the "special someone" in my arms! Gone are those days, but it's still comforting to say that it is better to be a "has-been" than a "never-was".

  • j'adore la chanson et les images que tu as mises camille(dont les photos de brice et moi à deux reprises merci)jtm tit frère

  • Thanks for posting. I remember when this song became a no. 1 hit in 1955...... way back. Al Hibbler had a hit with it the same year.
