@frelvis77 I got turned on to him in 70...I bought the self titled Leonard Cohen...with Suzanne, Sisters of Mercy etc...My Mom and Sister had me on 'suicide watch'...because of the "depressing music" I was listening to...lol

(I did play it incessantly though.) I'd never heard anyone tell it like that. He stunned me. I was so intrigued by him and what he said, and how he said it.

That remains one of my favorites of his. As years go by, and I reinterpret him, I appreciate him more, and more.

An interesting difference between Cohen & Dylan's writing technique is Cohen's said he's never had the kind of inspiration where a song just spills out of him quickly & spontaneously. He's said he instead sweats every line. So, he said, for instance, he's never dashed off a song sitting in the back of a taxi. But Dylan's said many of his 60's songs just came to him inspired, out the blue, quickly, almost like automatic writing, although he says they don't come to him quite that way anymore.

As for the poverty cycle it's not just African countries though they are a prime example. It can, for example be used in the context of the poorest people in Europe or the US.
