ibara looks like its a cover for a jrpg lol and i love it!!! dai ou jou has an amazing cover art and i would have to agree with you that senko no ronde limited edition has an amazing cover art!!! I love the art for terra diver on the saturn n galactic attack has such nostalgia behind it for me that i have to put it in my list. I love the us artwork for ikaruga with the exception of that dumb quote from ign lol

Some pretty gorgeous choices mate. Last Resort's artwork has always appealed to me and that DDP creation is simply superb i feel, the poster costs a small fortune, think i paid around £50 or something wayback. I won't even begin prenouncing the title of your number 1 but that's one piece of inspirational artwork in my book too. Lovin the lights dude! :)

@MENDEZ1628 Thanks mate they're not even Christmas lights!! Dead jealous of that poster dude it's stunning - relised when compiling this about all the great shooter covers I'd left off the list. Metal Black and Thunder Force V being two of those!

Out of those lot gunhead,do don pachi and last resort would be my favourite.

Great selections again, I'm glad to see Last Resort in there, the aes cover is so much better than the cd one where the ship is pointing straight as opposed to an angle on the cart box.

Would never have guessed no.1 & its got me thinking what my faves are that you never listed, there are just so many to choose from.

@gmintyfresh Yes, totally agree, the aes cover edges it for me as well, great one, fave aes shooter cover of the lot would go to Blazing Star but that game could have a white blank cover with the name blazing star wrote in felt tip pen & it would be number 1 for me, I'd be so happy to own it lol

I think ddp pips it for me. good collection of cover art and always nice to hear someone praising gunhed. I agreed with everything you said on that game.

@AmidstStorm I really think that Gunhed was the game that got me interested in Japanese cover art and it's quite shocking that I only just added it to my collection in the last year -I've been playing blazin lazers for years. DDP DOJ has been my fave for ages but as soon as I saw the art on Senko Duo I knew I had a new favourite. I completely left Mushihimesama off this list -what an idiot I am!

@gmintyfresh You may find it suprising to know that i don't own the jap version of Gunhed yet! i always look for it at a good price but for the money it goes for, it seems to make more sense to buy another shmup when I already own Blazing Lazers.

For a second you had me on Phalanx!.....I was thinking surely you can't be serious as that artwork is truly bloody hideous lol

It was only really when I started picking up N64 Japanese games that I started to have a bit more of an appreciation for the box art although to be fair sometimes the Japanese can come up with some shockers too! :)

@bluetonic78 ay embedded pictures. Show pictures Ha ha mate I am sorry couldn't resist it!! That cover really wouldn't look out of place on Mad Dog Mcree, what the hell were they thinking? Yes you're perfectly right not all Japanese covers are great, the Jap Version of Bio Hazard Battle on the MD springs to mind instantly. It worries me that with the rise in popularity of western gaming, that we're going to see less of those amazing Japanese covers on new releases.

The Psyvariar 2 looks really cool! And yeah, the Phalanx front artwork is really LOL-able, considering the fact that I ask myself "What is that country crooner doing in that cover?!" Yup, and the Senko no Ronde Duo art kinda gives something like a classic vibe to it.

@torm223300 Glad you liked the Psyvariar 2 cover it's brilliant, big FKing robots always go down well don't they?! :D You hit the nail right on the head with that description of cover if it had been some kind of western game I'd have understood!! Apparently the publishers wanted the game to stand out from the crowd so stuck this cover on the game. A real missed opportunity when you see how stunning the Jap cover is.
