Oh who cares!!!! The poor guy has performed well in all his other races. He competed in so many different events that it takes its toll. Sometimes,such things aren't that possible and like he said he had already competed in a 200m butterfly race that same night. Anyone who is a swimmer will understand the strain and difficulty that comes from swimming butterfly, it's hard!! The German swimmer, probably only trains for the 400m and 200m, he was fresh.
Statistics don't lie...the suits matter, at just about every distance...lets just see what history holds up for all of us to see. We really won't know anything until these guys get back on the world stage in 2012 without the suits.

@beijiing08 at the olympics he had an textile suit, and at the WC's he had an arena indeed. Those LZRs were even 2 secs per 200m faster than the textiles, the arenas were even a bit faster. So that takes of over 2 seconds of his time. Ain't there such a way that he wins less than two seconds? He is not the only one who did that. But what I do not understand is why when biederman has an disadvantage to Phelps (olympics) no one is complaining, and when the roles are turned around everyone is.

@Rac1ng4Live because at the olympics the two major suits were the lzr races from speedo and the blueseventys which were the firts real fullbody tech suits used by almost everyone at the olympics however at world champs a suit called the jaken came up and it is practicly like wearing a thin wet suit and biederman went somethign like 1:46 at beijing then managed to go 1:42 at worlds which is a massive difference

I mean, at the World-top level, everybody will be able to buy them (however you can see that it can lead to unfair differences). But at semi-proffesional and amateur levels, not everybody will have the money to buy it, making that talent will easier quit with swimming due to financial problems. This will make swimming a smaller sport.
Wit my statement, I meant that the swimmers who had an advantage in Beijing AND AT THAT TIME FOUND IT NORMAL, had to stop crying in Rome. I do think these suits make unfair differences.

The difference between a textile Nike suit and a LZR is bigger than between a LZR and a Jaked/Adidas. So people should have complained more in Beijing than in Rome, but they didn't just because in Rome Michael Phelps lost. That doesn't make sense.
i think biedermann didn't wear the same suit in beijing as michael did. michael had the lzr and paul one from adidas. but i think because of the specialization of the brands speedo is much better with its technology. but it doesn't matter. what happened happened. and from now on the suits will be past. greetings from germany

Well, the NIKE AIRs and reebok pump have different effects on their sport than on swimming... I mean they did not increase the stamina (stamina is increased by muscle compression so that the muscles will not become tired so quickly). The suits are to be banned...
Anyway I think that Michael needed this kind of loss to have a new motivation. He has got back his world record on 100m fly... but what now? Now he is going to get back his 200m free record...

I dont care if its urethane...that fact is a suit is an aparatus...much like a tennis player's racket or a soccer players boot. Unless u swim naked then there will always be suits thats new, thats improved...etc so its part of the sport. If Phelps wore the polyurethane suit and broke his own record by 1/10 of a sec.....every body will say what a great swimmer he is once again case close.
No........you're wrong. The man is in the water, hence having a suit that floats makes it easier for him to swim. He doesn't have to try as hard to stay afloat, because the suit is holding him up.

I got your point but is wrong. Do you know swimming? Floatation helps those with heavy bone structure and muscle mass much more than lighter ones. And these suits help floatation, that's why we see more more WR being broken by big boys...see the french freestylers... i agree swim suit technology should move forward but it should be balanced and governed by strict rules....luckily, after Jan 1 2010, all will be back to hardwork and techniques.
Your wrong... Biedermann had to works his ass off to get to that level. If you put on a LZR or any of the new suits... your not going to break the WR. I highly doubt the suit makes a difference. Obviously Michael is upset. Good thing they are banning these suits in the upcoming months. Now no one will have an advantage. This loss will give Michael a lot of motivation.
These flotation devices (arena x-glide) really help these big guys like biedermann. Without these buoyancy suits these heavy guys would use most of there energy trying to stay high on the water and thus lose endurance.
Michael Phelps said it wasn't the suit it was the swimmer that beat him. Now the media can stop saying that he lost because of the swim suit. Maybe Michael will wear the same type of suit the next time around. Michael seems to be down to earth and takes his lose as a learning experience.

i think that all swimmers should have to swim naked; this way we would know who the fasted swimmer really is, which would be Phelps. Phelps would not lose to Biederman or whatever his name is if they wore the same suit, whichever that may be. I would bet a pretty penny on that. And even if Phelps does lose a race when all things are equal, like the suits they wear, then that is what happens in all sports at any given time. First of all: I say it again and again, Biedermann uses the Arena X-Glide and not the (better) Adidas Jaked. Yes Thorpe started it in 2004.
Biedermann NEVER said the X-Glide gives him two seconds over Phelps. I can verify it easily because I understand German and I have done it. So stop making stuff up. What he said that the suit makes him 2 seconds faster than without. Your claim makes no sense anyway since there is no way for him to compare to a Phelps without enhanced suit.

Biedermann has won only with the super high tech suit so i don't respect his accomplisments. I want him to do it without the suit like Phelps, Peirsol and Jones period.

Phelps is the best 200m freestyle swimmer in the history, and he will prove it one last time in London.

@Rac1ng4Live because at the olympics the two major suits were the lzr races from speedo and the blueseventys which were the firts real fullbody tech suits used by almost everyone at the olympics however at world champs a suit called the jaken came up and it is practicly like wearing a thin wet suit and biederman went somethign like 1:46 at beijing then managed to go 1:42 at worlds which is a massive difference

I mean, at the World-top level, everybody will be able to buy them (however you can see that it can lead to unfair differences). But at semi-proffesional and amateur levels, not everybody will have the money to buy it, making that talent will easier quit with swimming due to financial problems. This will make swimming a smaller sport.

The difference between a textile Nike suit and a LZR is bigger than between a LZR and a Jaked/Adidas. So people should have complained more in Beijing than in Rome, but they didn't just because in Rome Michael Phelps lost. That doesn't make sense.

BUT deep in my heart i say he was beaten by the technology of the suit.. here is why... the suit is already now illegal because it is made of 80% polyurethane which basically floats on water... 15 world records fell in rome by athletes ALL in the arena suit.. and Biederman was wiped clean by Phelps in Beijing by 4 body lengths.. something is wrong here :) Phelps...man of the year!

Well, the NIKE AIRs and reebok pump have different effects on their sport than on swimming... I mean they did not increase the stamina (stamina is increased by muscle compression so that the muscles will not become tired so quickly). The suits are to be banned...
Anyway I think that Michael needed this kind of loss to have a new motivation. He has got back his world record on 100m fly... but what now? Now he is going to get back his 200m free record...

I dont care if its urethane...that fact is a suit is an aparatus...much like a tennis player's racket or a soccer players boot. Unless u swim naked then there will always be suits thats new, thats improved...etc so its part of the sport. If Phelps wore the polyurethane suit and broke his own record by 1/10 of a sec.....every body will say what a great swimmer he is once again case close.

No........you're wrong. The man is in the water, hence having a suit that floats makes it easier for him to swim. He doesn't have to try as hard to stay afloat, because the suit is holding him up.
It's like having a spring under your shoes to jump and dunk the ball. Not as much force is exerted because the shoes do the work.

I do get your point.. and it's a point i did take into consideration before when i knew they were going to illegalize the suit...the thing is, they make tennis rackets lighter so the players don't get tired carrying around one of those old crucifix's but it doesn't mean that it hits the ball faster...they REALLY improved golf clubs to hit the ball farther--BUT who cares if a player hits it 500 yards, he might land in the rough or in a trap, hitting 500 yards doesn't meant you are a good golfer

I got your point but is wrong. Do you know swimming? Floatation helps those with heavy bone structure and muscle mass much more than lighter ones. And these suits help floatation, that's why we see more more WR being broken by big boys...see the french freestylers... i agree swim suit technology should move forward but it should be balanced and governed by strict rules....luckily, after Jan 1 2010, all will be back to hardwork and techniques.

Your wrong... Biedermann had to works his ass off to get to that level. If you put on a LZR or any of the new suits... your not going to break the WR. I highly doubt the suit makes a difference. Remember, Phelps won gold wearing the old suit/leg skin. Then, put on the LZR and he did not have as good race.

These flotation devices (arena x-glide) really help these big guys like biedermann. Without these buoyancy suits these heavy guys would use most of there energy trying to stay high on the water and thus lose endurance.

It's the fact that Phelps himself used an modern swimsuit in the past, to gain an advantage over others with traditional ones. Then it was ok and all was perfect. But if others do the exact same thing, its not fair?I think its unfair to judge Biedermann for something you did yourself or you cheered for in the past.Just like Phelps said, it was the swimmer who beat him, with help from the suit.

i think that all swimmers should have to swim naked; this way we would know who the fasted swimmer really is, which would be Phelps. Phelps would not lose to Biederman or whatever his name is if they wore the same suit, whichever that may be. I would bet a pretty penny on that. And even if Phelps does lose a race when all things are equal, like the suits they wear, then that is what happens in all sports at any given time. The great one's lose to inferior opponents, once in awhile.

Here in Athens, the difference between the arena and jaked compared to the LZR is so big that Unknown swimmers like biedermann are destroying fucking records by 2-6 seconds. Biedermann and many other swimmers, as well as Arena, Adidas and others warned the FINA in 2008 not to allow the Speedo LZR Racer because it would lead to a "arms race". But neither Speedo nor Phelps would listen.

Biedermann said that his jaked arena has made him two seconds faster so if we take those two seconds away from Biedermann's free WR he would've lost by half a second and that's a fact. Phelps beats Biedermann in the 200 free anyday with the same suit moron.

First of all: I say it again and again, Biedermann uses the Arena X-Glide and not the (better) Adidas Jaked. Yes Thorpe started it in 2004.
Biedermann NEVER said the X-Glide gives him two seconds over Phelps. I can verify it easily because I understand German and I have done it. So stop making stuff up. What he said that the suit makes him 2 seconds faster than without. Your claim makes no sense anyway since there is no way for him to compare to a Phelps without enhanced suit.

He started his professional career was always among the worlds top 8 swimmers in the last 4 to 5 years. He has 5 European titles and 6 European records. In Beijing 2008 he was only 5th but the best one of the pack without enhanced suit. All 4 swimmers before him wore the LZR Racer. But because Phelps won you were not whining about his unfair advantage back than.

For me, you would have to say that Phelps is simply the best ever. There is then a gap to probably Piersol and Leisel Jones (not competing here but still around). These have all done it both in the suits and not in the suits over a sustained period of time and redefined their respective events. Biedermann has won only with the super high tech suit so i don't respect his accomplisments. I want him to do it without the suit like Phelps, Peirsol and Jones period.
