You don't really need a true DOS system if you use DOSBox with the screen windowed (Alt-Enter). The Roland MT-32 driver is NOT included with the standard version, however.
Horrible, absolutely horrible. I don't mean to be a jerk, but I have a real MT-32, and this emulation sounds pretty bad... and the music plays very slowly too.
Synth implementation might suck and some effects (like echo etc) might be missing, but the speed is exactly what it is with the real thing since the MIDI messages are bit perfect and timing comes from the realtime clock just as it did back in the old days. Anything else is just in your head. ;-)
Not exactly, this is dosbox MT-32 emulation with original MT-32 roms, however I do have a real MT-32 also and I can testify that this sound relatively close to the original.
Floppy disc version?

@sslaxx Yep. I think the CD version has speech, but I don't have it.

@decod31 Didn't realise the CD version had a different version of the Sierra logo at start-up, either.

The instruments are pretty off in this compared to a real MT-32.

Just think, this game would have been over already if Roger had just answered, "Uhh, no."

A real MT-32 is far better. But I'm glad an MT-32 emulator at least exists in some fashion.

@poodle:
IMO, nothing can beat the real thing. emulators just aren't the same for me.

These games are beautifully done.

You're right on the speed - sorry. Just curious, since you have a real MT-32, why use an emulator?
jbltecnicspro 4 years ago
Video capture is easier, but other than that I was just testing how far the emulation can go.

How can I emulate the MT-32?
I just got the games and would like to hear this cool sound. I have an SB X-Fi

Google dosboxmt32bin.zip and download it from the first link. You'll need to find the ROMs somehow too.
decod31 3 years ago
You can try searching torrents with MT32_PCM.

@jbltecnicspro it seems like its lagin i know but actualy the fault is because animations do not have many frames
ConradProteus 1 year ago
That's not how a real MT-32 sounds.

...or check the real thing in my latest video (Real Roland MT-32 playing).

You have polyphony issues! but what a blast from the past... I have to get a dos system built and play these again.

Or just get the SQ Collection!
