If affirmative action was unfair in the 60's, its unfair now. Its like saying whites should be slaves for a while because blacks were slaves once. Two wrongs, dont make a right.
I don't think many people who were attending college or looking for jobs in the 60s are doing the same today. You can't hold a man responsible for the deeds of his father. Asians had no advantages over whites, yet affirmative action makes it easier for whites to receive education than Asians. Finally Affirmative action is counter productive, if an employer thinks a black man was sent to a school & granted a degree because he was black & not because he earned it he'd hire someone he thought did.
If affirmative action is good because it levels the playing field, why do we not gove the best education for those who are not wealthy enough to afford it? Ah, its because they are so indolent and risk averse that they let their lives get that way in the first place? You want redress of white domination over black people but do not wanterdress of a system that allow the richest to have the best start in life and the most opportunities more generally?
I was kinda concerned, because 1) you didn't seem as eloquent as you normally are, and 2) the argument you gave was just flat out invalid on the surface.
But I also understand that it's debate, and people can choose to argue either side, just to see how the argument stacks up. No worries mate.
Your logic is well stated however I disagree. I would not want a firefighter in charge of a situation just because of the color of his or her skin. It's just too critical of a role in society.
insightful video.

This is a "two wrongs make a right" argument, which is self-evidently an improper argument.
