  • I bet the settler that was killed with a rivercane arrow would say they work.bet Geronimo.would tell you they work

  • On my other comment I was saying an arrow is a lot longer so a lot more friction going on whereas a bullet is short and not nearly as much friction going on so if you think bout it I think it seems arrows get better penetration of corse they do have cutting edges

  • Do you know the legal lowest poundage bow you can hunt a turkey with ? I've heard it as low as 35# but idk and I also wanted to say it seems as if arrows get better penetration then bullets ? If you think about it and arrow is ALOT longer then a bullet and some bullets don't penetrate all the way through as most arrows get goof penetration at close range of course from long range a bullet gets more but from close an arrow seems to get more because the length of the arrow also adds lots more fri

  • i would like to be i your email list so i can know when the dvds come out..how can i send my email to you?

  • Thank you for the help I figured it was 1 and 1/2 that's Wat iwas makin it how do you think mulberry would hold up too this design ?

  • @joec123able If you do a great job tillering it should work. Take your time and do not stress the belly fibers. Draw the bow short draws after each time you take off wood. Good quality work will make a good bow!

  • Hey blood brother when is your turkey hunting with primitve arrows going to be finished>? I cant wait!!!! your the best

  • @deerslayer048 Working on it now...are you on my email list?...If not please send to me and i will make sure you know when the dvd is available...thanks blood brother!

  • @BeckumOutdoors Yes im on it, cant wait :)

  • awesome, you have the best stuff out there, still waiting on that new video!

  • @jeffthecheff Thanks Jeff, i am still working on the dvd ....i will post a Youtube clip when it is ready..thanks again!

  • Thad, how long is that shaft of your arrow and also, about what diameter is your shaft? Reason i'm asking is that I have found some river cane and have permission to cut some. BTW, enjoyed this test.

  • @kyletango My arrow is 40" long and about 7/16 on the heavy end at the foreshaft. The cane is 32" long with a 8" hardwood foreshaft. Thanks for the good comment!

  • @BeckumOutdoors I am working on a full length dvd about making the native rivercane arrow with flint & organic points!

  • How wide is your bow at the widest point as in the handle

  • @joec123able Hello, my bow is 1 1/2 " at the center of handle...this is the widest part being a d-bow!...Thanks

  • how long would you let the rivercane out to dry

  • @jonah214 I am making a new dvd on the Native rivercane arrow which will explain all one needs to know about making and hunting with them...also the dvd will include a segment on making flint points and organic points!...but if you cut your cane i like to dry it about 2-3 months.

  • nice video, wish I knew how to make my own bow arrows.

  • @BraDH861 Its just a matter of learning and anyone can learn...thanks for good comment.

  • "Just because it's made of natural materials doesn't mean it's inferior...." Thad, I couldn't have said it any better. Absolutely perfect explanation of primitive archery gear!

  • @primitivepathways Thanks Billy....

  • Is there a video on how to make those arrows? if not could you make them, theyre quite beautiful

  • @Pyromaniac1801 I am working on a full length dvd on how to make the native rivercane arrow and it will also show some hunting with them and segments on flint knapping and organic points ...thanks for the nice comment.

  • @BeckumOutdoors Awesome! Cant wait!

  • Very interesting pls do more like this

  • @joec123able Thanks!

  • Thad man oh man what am amazing video im really hope this stops people thinking self bow and stone points dont work. As you have shown in this video they really do work!!!

  • @flamefinger1989 Thank you very much for your nice comments.

  • Why the heck would we think primitive arrows were ineffective ? We are here aren't we ? We do not need your stupid test to prove that ancient people could feed themselves. Our very existance proves that. And by the way, why are you dressed the way you are ? Are you suppose to be some kind of eighth or sixteenth blood Indian ? Just so you know and there is no shame in it , Europeans were using the bow long before the Mongoloid types.

  • @cottonjeff This video was posted to help people who hunt with primitive archery in todays time frame and primitive archery is growing. And yes my mothers family is part of the Family Tree Q1a3a1 Native American DNA project. You have to test positive native american to be in the project. Man why are you so angry...are you angry at yourself!

  • @cottonjeff Actually this test is legitimate and is needed. Today people think that a primitive bow and arrow is ineffective. In fact, some states have even outlawed stone points for hunting, even though they are just as deadly as steel points. Tests like this are valid and definitely needed. And yes, Thad is Native American and is part of a DNA research project that is studying the migrations of early Native people into America. Don't be so angry dude it's bad for you!

  • Hi Thad! :) Could you please tell me what is the length of this nice bow of yours? I am wandering ( I just started my adventure with primitive bow making) what would be the shortest possible length of D-bow to maintain 27 inch draw length? For a 40-45 pound bow? Thank you.:)

  • @genieoner The bow in the video is about as short as i like to shoot...it is 59 inches unstrung. I really like a bow about 64" It seems that the shorter we make bows the more we give up accuracy...the longer bow seems to be more forgiven to the shooter. I guess some people can shoot short bows well but not me. The longer bow spreads out the stress on the limbs also. The only advantage to a short bow is manuerbility. Good luck in your bow making quest!

  • Great job, I didn't know you could do that

  • @tim11308 Thanks...more to come soon!

  • you can throw a stick at one of those things and kill it... But a bow is fun!

  • @NicholasKelley111 A turkey is a very durable tough animal....you don't hear about the ones that got away with bow. You get a quick kill if you hit vital.

  • Great video, I really liked the Wooden Points, you really dont see much demonstration of them on here. Thanks for sharing!

    -Lonnie

  • @KentahtenAyawisgi Thank you very much ...more to come soon!

  • whats the draw weight of the bow please

  • @Androandroandrica I think he said 52lbs but I'm not sure

  • @Androandroandrica It is 52 pounds and shoots nice and hard.

  • Great video and very interesting! I have a question though: is there a reason your arrows are that long? Thanks again, cheers!

  • @Olwe1992 My arrows are southeastern native arrows and they are long....compared to the native arrows of the amazon they are very short...those arrows are 5-6 feet. Long arrows are very stable in flight and have good weight for deep penetration and they bend around a primitive bow handle better than short arrows which makes them more forgiven in spine!

  • Great demo. Ancient technology rocks

    Nate

  • @CdnLifeguard71 Yes it does!

  • Excellent video Thad!! You really brought to light just how effective and deadly a primitive bow and arrow really is....especially when you hit that turkey. Man, you can hear it! "WHACK!!!" Using a real turkey and feathers definitely made this a very accurate test that has scientific legitimacy. If you keep shooting like that then you will definitely fill your turkey tag this spring. I also have to say "I am so glad you are back, that you are feeling better and you're shooting your bow!

  • @primitivepathways Not only that...but the show you were in living like a caveman...

Those weapons Latalatles? (cant spell it) Those were effective as you can see. But at close range.

Its amazing how our ancestors survived so long, including cold winters where now a days most people would freeze to death.

  • @primitivepathways Thanks Billy.....thanks for the nice comment...we are planning on a time to hunt....... 17-18-19 of Feb...we have a dark moon then. I will call you tommorrow! Thad

  • love that bow. Very interesting on the sharpened tip only. May try to get some of those for squirrels. I get arrow stingy when shooting store bought arrows into the tops of trees.

  • @Sambalifter Store made arrows are easy .....losing a good hand made arrow is real bad!

  • wow! your gear is beautiful. great video. thanks.

  • @ANXIETOR Thank you very much!

  • Hello,

what is the draw length of your bow please,

    thankyou.

  • @markitisthen I have short arms and only draw 25 1/2 inches, i wish i had a 30 inch draw but thats not the way i came here!

  • @BeckumOutdoors Thats ok, I have short arms too!

  • Good trial run on the turkey. Are you planning a spring turkey hunt with your primitive tackle? If so keep us posted. Great video as always. Take care, Scott

  • @wildaboutchrist Hey Scott, yes i am planning to hunt with Joe Mole and the NWTF and also some of my own hunting too. Thanks for the nice comments.

  • @kenny1979 A sharp hardwood stick can do alot of damage.

  • Great video brother, if it weren't for bows like this we would not be here. Our ancestors used them to great effect. Joe Garza.

  • @EDINBURGSTAR You are so right!

  • @EDINBURGSTAR Yes they did ...make i am proud to hunt with my southeastern bow and rivercane arrow!

  • another very cool video...thanks! looking forward to your next DVD release.

  • @david32cal Thank you very much!

  • Excelllent video! You've got a new subscriber! :-)

  • @AllergicHobbit Thanks for the good comment!

  • Thad, great experiment, really enjoyed seeing this in action!

  • @TheTribeOfBenjamin Thanks brother!

  • Not surprised at all to see the power of the primitive gear. I'd love to see you do a test on a side of venison or pork though.

Is your wood point a fire hardened one? or raw river cane?

You are living the dream, so glad you are sharing :D.

  • @TheBoyFromNorfolk We will try that later....the wood point was not fire hardened just good hardwood (sparkleberry)

  • Awesome video!! What is the draw weight of your bow and also what is the length of your arrow shaft? Thanks for sharing!!!

  • @SuperCel1974 The osage bow is 52 pounds and the rivercane arrow is 40 inches and is 660 grains. Thanks

  • You're lucky you live where you can find rivercane.

  • @Omnignosis Yes rivercane is fine material!

  • The natives also used those arrows to shoot one another.

  • @PANTTERA1959 Yes, all people have warred with each other for all time!

  • I've shot 7 animals including deer, possum, squirrel, rabbit, and racoon with a 51 lb. osage bow, river cane or wood arrows and flint or glass tips and on ALL the animals the point went in one side and came out the other. my friend killed a turkey with primitive equipment with the same result. So if anyone thinks that natural materials are ineffective I'd have to say they probably don't have any experience with it. also skinned the deer with an obsidian blade without resharpening. PRIMITIVE ROCKS!

  • @wildweasel1234 Yes i agree....it is an honor to reproduce these great weapons.

  • LMAO! No doubt....

  • @RealitySurvival Thanks!

  • interesting. never even considered the sharpened stick option, really cool

  • @yaro07 Most arrow points used by native peoples were not made from flint....a hard piece of wood can do a lot of damage an also bone, antler etc.

  • excellent video sir, keep em comming. :)

  • @bbroegger Thank you very much!

  • Excellent Video! And a great test! I would love to deer and turkey hunt with all primitive materials as well, but here in Nebraska it isn't legal. Do know which states it is legal to hunt with all primitive materials in?

  • @RealitySurvival Welcome to the land of the Free! :P

  • @bradwjensen Hope we stay Free!

  • @RealitySurvival Sorry i don't.....it is legal here in my home state.

  • Now you should do this test with a deer, using an flint point and also just using a sharpened stick end. That would be very interesting.

  • @bradwjensen Go to primitivepathways...you can see my friend Billy Berger do just that....testing penetration with a 40 pound osage bow and light 300 grain arrow with stone bird points .....you will like it!
