The reaction to this incident, by itself, is a joke. The attention put to Imus has to be transfered to physical problems. Homelessness, education, crime, any problems influenced by racism. Speech is a ghost. If you're going to fight offensive speech, fight it indirectly, rather than beat the offender over the head.
