@akssachdev callin them a "professional sports team" is a bit of a stretch their an AHL team at best, and for the AHL 14 dollars for shitty seats in a shit arena, with shitty traffic is a lot
@jegolden1 turning in to the net the TOR player was already down and Bates was a full stride ahead of him, albeit at an angle coming in. I always thought if the Leaf player didn't go down, maybe Bates doesn't score, but who ever that was made a split second decision. Doesn't really matter now, does it??
they used to yank that horn all night i miss the old days but opening day was packed i think that we make the playoffs and this is atmosphere is happening again
I was at this game with my Dad and sister and it was incredible and a memory I'll never forget. Please VOTE YES on August 1st so other people can have amazing memories like this!
I love how the goal horn guy totally reminded CuJo that he got scored on by adding at least another 15 seconds onto the original blast of the horn haha
even as a Pens fan I have to say watchout the Islanders are a team on the rise with John Tavares, Matt Moulson, Kyle Okposo, Michael Grabner, Josh Bailey they are on the rise
The Islanders were the better team in this series. If it wasn't for the dirty cheap play of the dirty leafs, the Isles would have won this series.I also believe they would have went to the finals too.I don't think they would have beat the Wings, because that was simply the greatest one year all-star team ever assembled, but they would have hung in there the best they could.
@Pika740 overpriced tickets? are you fucking stupid? Islander tickets are like 14 dollars if youre a student. FOURTEEN DOLLARS FOR A PROFESSIONAL SPORTS GAME... also learn to spell... you meant "our" not "are"
@akssachdev That comment is nearly two years old. Obviously ticket prices changed. It doesn't disprove the other facts; not to mention the arena is a dump and transportation is a mess.
For the franchise to succeed we need a new arena. Quit being grammar nazi.
They should have made a history will be made out of this. This was a great playoff moment. And this was an unbelievable series. Was able to go to game 3 and 6 with my dad and brother. The atmosphere in that building was unreal. My dad who grew up following the Islanders told me he never heard the coliseum be that loud even during the glory days of the team. I still feel if Peca and Jonnson never got hurt the Isles might have won the series.
@Ehxc7 it’s designed to be loud, it’s got the lowest ceiling of any arena i’ve seen, so the sound reverberates louder, makes it all the better hockey experience....besides that the coliseum is an outdated dump.
I remember that series as being one of the most exciting in recent ( the last ten years anyway ) Islanders history. Sadly it was the last time they showed any cohesive talent on the ice.
i cant wait to hear how loud the coliseum is gonna be the next time the isles make the playoffs and win in the first round, it would be a miracle if they lost on home ice,
the islanders r just bad and its not the players its the management. snow is a terrible GM. Scott Gordon cant coach his out of the locker room and someone explain to me y millbury is still in the organization he may not have a title but he is still there. He ran that team into the ground. The face of the Islanders is mr. rick "hurts his vag" DiPietro and he has the most lucrative contract in sports. Dont even get me started on charles wong he should sell the team to Bossy and make evry1 =)
@wwefan9458 I am not the biggest fan of Snow but hes not bad
If Gordon can't coach out of the locker room like you say then why was he made assistant for the Olympics last year? Also coached the World Championships in Germany this year as well.
I cant wait for 2 year to come, the islanders will be a great playoff contender, and thats coming from a ranger fan. Taveres will have a great NHL career and Okposo is a great player, i no the Isles are 12 in the East right now but when DP comes back, the Isles will be in good shape, u just gotta hope DP can stay healthly.
Watching this gives me goosebumps--I miss this team and the 06-07 Islanders--if only Alexei Yashin played on the fourth line and he used his body once in a while.
Players don't stay on the team because nobody shows up to their games, and Milbury was a psycho who would trade you away or refuse to negotiate a contract if you had a good season.
I loved this shot, and I bought season tickets this year, I am making slide show videos, if anyone would like to see it. Its going to be pics in a slide show of every game i go to.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
well at least we've won a playoff series in recent memory, but thats TYPICAL b/s from a fan of a team that has won absolutely nothing since 1983...your LAST CUP EVER!!!!!
@Bhdplaya I was at this game too. Row 15 even with the goal line to Curtis Joseph's right. Who was the bald guy that painted his face amd head all white? You must have of saw him. The whole game he just stared and pointed to him thought out the entire game. What a game and series! It sucked that the Islanders lost.
Boy do I remember tht...Once I saw tht he scored I went nuts...I didnt think he was gonna score and he had the nerve to beat curtis joseph on a penalty shot...I'm a die hard Islander fan so yea lol and I'm 16 and I still go crazy and scream at the tv when I watch them every day hahaha :)
same yo...im 16 and even tho the isles lost that series that was the best fucking series i ever watched...i went to one of the games too but i get goose bumps every time i watch this
I agree that the atmosphere at the Coliseum for that series was as electric as any sporting event can be. Even in the Isles' playoff series in 2003, 2004, and 2007 they had great crowds. I agree the Coliseum is old, but put a quality team on the ice and get in the playoffs and that place will be rocking again. It's a shame that the Isles have fallen on hard times. Hopefully, getting John Tavares in the Draft this year will turn the team around and keep them on LI.
huge ranger fan however i was at this game and this was the loudest i have ever heard any hockey arena and the 4th loudest i have ever heard a sporting event in my life (after plaxico's td catch in the super bowl, boone's walk off, and jeter's walk off in the 01 world series) i hope the islanders can rebuild their franchise because it is always fun watching another metro area team crash the playoff party and rejuvenate the metro area rivalry
I've been an Islanders fan my whole life (33 years and counting) and while I was too young to truly cherish the glory days, I'm glad I got to see this one. It's sda what has happened to our once proud franchise. At least for a moment we were able to forget
i went to the devils game last night verse the islanders. i was at this game. i dont care how bad the islanders are they still are my favorite and if they move that will be my whole childhood out the door. i was 8 years old at this game, please stay on long island. kansas city is not worthy
Best hockey game I've ever been to. I don't think I've ever heard a crowd louder than that night (including at MSG). It's a shame the team has been piss poor for a good part of the past decade...
I don't think I'm gonna watch Islanders games anymore. Every time they play I'll just watch Islanders highlights on youtube for a couple hours and use my imagination to pretend that they are not having a piss poor season.
I love guys like Shawn Bates. An underappreciated, hard working forward gets a moment like this and boy does he follow through.
Even as a Devil fan, I love this moment because I liked Bates a lot and it is such a great shot and reaction by the crowd that it just gets to me. It's an awesome moment, hope Bates is doing well in Finland.
The Islander fans are great fans. It's a shame this team has sucked for the most part of the last 15 years. That 2002 season was the first time in 9 years they had a decent team and they haven't had a decent team since then.
i really cant get over how good of a moment this was in islanders history, i was there i got the chills, 6 years later im still getting them from watching this, its so fuckin awsome.
In regards to my previous post, there will be no beer for the Ranger fans.(Except maybe B2B76) There are just too many Ranger fans commenting on this awesome Islanders clip. I guess the Ranger fans ran out of good Ranger clips to watch.
Too bad Nassau Coliseum hasn't rocked liked that since. Fucking Mike Milbury, what an douchebag. 10 years for Yashin!!! If anyone wants to knock hockey fans for loyalty, don't ever knock a hardcore Isles fan.
Die hard Ranger fan here, but I give the Isles a ton of credit for hanging in there in this series, they played their hearts out & survived several cheap shots up until Gm 7. Bates is a blood & guts player but is to injury prone. Is he still an Islander?
Let's go Islanders!

In regards to my previous post, there will be no beer for the Ranger fans.(Except maybe B2B76) There are just too many Ranger fans commenting on this awesome Islanders clip. I guess the Ranger fans ran out of good Ranger clips to watch.

If and when the Islanders win the Stanley Cup again I will buy a beer for everyone who comments on this video.

B2B76 3 years ago 9
no we just paid him the rest of his contract so we can fill the roster with someone that wont be in a suit the whoel season

I'm a Devils fan, but hearing that crowd reaction sends chills down my spine. What a great moment.

Ditto from a Wings fan. The excitement from the crowd makes this enjoyable for anyone, except I suppose, a Leafs fan.
