It's amazing how technology advances in just in a couple of years like on this video they say how amazing the graphics on the PS2 are.. Nowadays we think their just crap.. Same thing is going to happen with PS3 and XBOX 360 in a couple of years new consoles come out and the graphics that we think are amazing right now might just be complete crap compared to the newer consoles to come.

@TheSRC1995 They really did look realistic at the time. I never noticed how blocky GTA: Vice City looked when it first came out. And the sharp lines didn't catch my eye nearly as much as they do now in general. You just have to have played something better before all the shortcomings of any generations graphics become so apparent.

It was released on the 21th of October and PS1 was released on the 29th of September. The only difference between them was the popularity. PS1 didn't took off until in 1997, but PS2 was already popular cause of the DVD player.

Sadly alot of the games with amazing graphics tend to be a bit too short these days.
i got my ps2 last 2001 my first 3 games was Midnightclub street racing, TekkenTag and Gundam Seed Destiny.. then the fourth was Smackdown vs Raw 2005 and NBA Live 2005.. and ps2 still awesome today.. but don't have anymore since 2007
What i like about PS2, is that it came out in 2000, they made a slim version in '04, made another remake in '07, and you can still find it in stores,and new PS2 games are still coming out. I have an 2007 slim, and it is awesome! You cant find a gamecube or X-box in every store like you can find a PS2 slim almost everywhere. Although the wii is my favorite console.
@TheThundercoaster Thats because both Nintendo and Microsoft discontinued their older consoles so they could concentrate on their new ones. With Microsoft they had to release their console early due to a disagreement with Nvidia which lead to them no longer making the Xbox graphics chip. As far as the gamecube has gone, nintendo saw that they didnt get the marketshare they wanted so they wanted to get something new out and dismiss the cube. Ps2 never had any of those problems.
Back when I was a kid (I was born in 1985 just to give you a hint at when I was a kid) video games and their consoles were more expensive than today; because of this my parents would not buy me neither the Sega, Sony, nor Nintendo, they didn't have all that much money.
Anyway, my best friend had a PlayStation and a Super Nintendo, and believe it or not, the SNES was my most favorite. During that time most everybody made the PS1 the fad. I had to have it to be in the "in" group.

But yeah, PS2 is the best console ever IMO. Captured over 70% of market share (Xbox, Dreamcast and Gamecube combined had the other 30%), 145 million sold (and counting), still going strong after 10 years, over 2,000 titles (and counting) and well over a billion games sold.
@clubpenguin777 I wouldnt honestly say still going strong, considering ps2s arent sold too much now a days I would say "just gasping for air". At this moment in the wide market ps2 is great for causal gamers but most of the so called hardcore gamers either already have one or have moved on to ps3.
Well all game stores still have lots of NEW ps2 games and consoles. Yes, it is popular for casual gamers, a rival of such to the Wii. Go into a game shop today and you'll be lucky to find any used Xbox or Gamecube games.

@vhsanddvds74 The ps2 did have optional addons for both internet and hard drive. Both were horribly done, sony had no clue what they were doing. It took a decent amount of time for them to get psn on ps3 working right.
You can play any modern console by just putting in the discs and playing, although some ps3 games require hard drive installation, on the xbox 360 its just an option not a forced thing.

The biggest problem is development costs for making a ps3 game are alot higher then they were for ps2 so not every company who made ps2 games can afford making ps2 games.

I loved the PS2 / Xbox / Dreamcast generation.
The PS2 was the most popular, no other console could touch it. That was generally accepted.
The original Xbox was a very respectable and very well built console, with great games such as Forza and Halo.
And the dreamcast...The Dreamcast was arguably better than both the Xbox and PS2, but was unfairly knocked out.
PC gamers didn't hate on console users like they do now, and gamers in general got on very well.

What i like about PS2, is that it came out in 2000, they made a slim version in '04, made another remake in '07, and you can still find it in stores,and new PS2 games are still coming out. I have an 2007 slim, and it is awesome! You cant find a gamecube or X-box in every store like you can find a PS2 slim almost everywhere. Although the wii is my favorite console.

@TheThundercoaster Thats because both Nintendo and Microsoft discontinued their older consoles so they could concentrate on their new ones. With Microsoft they had to release their console early due to a disagreement with Nvidia which lead to them no longer making the Xbox graphics chip. As far as the gamecube has gone, nintendo saw that they didnt get the marketshare they wanted so they wanted to get something new out and dismiss the cube. Ps2 never had any of those problems.

Back when I was a kid (I was born in 1985 just to give you a hint at when I was a kid) video games and their consoles were more expensive than today; because of this my parents would not buy me neither the Sega, Sony, nor Nintendo, they didn't have all that much money.
Anyway, my best friend had a PlayStation and a Super Nintendo, and believe it or not, the SNES was my most favorite. During that time most everybody made the PS1 the fad. I had to have it to be in the "in" group.

But yeah, PS2 is the best console ever IMO. Captured over 70% of market share (Xbox, Dreamcast and Gamecube combined had the other 30%), 145 million sold (and counting), still going strong after 10 years, over 2,000 titles (and counting) and well over a billion games sold.

@clubpenguin777 I wouldnt honestly say still going strong, considering ps2s arent sold too much now a days I would say "just gasping for air". At this moment in the wide market ps2 is great for causal gamers but most of the so called hardcore gamers either already have one or have moved on to ps3.

Well all game stores still have lots of NEW ps2 games and consoles. Yes, it is popular for casual gamers, a rival of such to the Wii. Go into a game shop today and you'll be lucky to find any used Xbox or Gamecube games.

@Britishdude1 At the time, $300 was a great price for a gaming machine especially for the people who do not have the technical know how to build or use a gaming pc plus at the time dvd players were fairly new and most cost more then a ps2 did so all around it was a great deal. Plus the ps2 had excellent graphics for 10 years ago.

@vhsanddvds74 The ps2 did have optional addons for both internet and hard drive. Both were horribly done, sony had no clue what they were doing. It took a decent amount of time for them to get psn on ps3 working right.
You can play any modern console by just putting in the discs and playing, although some ps3 games require hard drive installation, on the xbox 360 its just an option not a forced thing.

At the time it was kinda cool to had a game on ps2 which was thought to be exclusive to dreamcast.
Especially for the many people who never bought a dreamcast and waited for the ps2 instead. Most games ported form dreamcast to ps2 were better on dreamcast because they were designed for it.

The biggest problem is development costs for making a ps3 game are alot higher then they were for ps2 so not every company who made ps2 games can afford making ps2 games.
