@Thelizzardcat To be honest while these are excellent videos to first help you understand a concept, simply watching this video won't help much to study. The best method is to write all of the concepts out in a study guide in a way you can understand them.

To be more specific, i am using these videos to refresh my brain to all of the early concepts that i learned in Alg,2 that got lost over the past few months. I'm sure it would be easier to just say, "7x = 14. Now every letter after a number immediately makes it a multiplication problem. As you know 7 + 7 = 14, so 7x = 14 would become 7 x (x) = 14. And 7 + 7 = 14 SHOWS you that x becomes a 2. so its now 7 x 2 = 14. How? Because 7 + 7 would be 2 TIMES of the seven, which would become 14! <---- wouldn't that be easier than just a bunch of x's and o's?
And really, I think you should stop fussing about "colors". It gets on my nerves and on others' too.

@IDontHoldTheTruth 2y + 4y = 18. If you do what you describe, you get the wrong answer (9/4 does not equal 3). Why you get the wrong answer is because when you first divide by 2, you should also divide the 4y by 2. That is, you divide ALL of both sides when you divide. So:
2y + 4y = 18
Divide all by 2 leaves:
y + 2y = 9
Now the easiest way to solve this is to just add the ys and divide by 3:

@IDontHoldTheTruth there are a number of ways to solve basic algebraic equations. the way khan did it was just one of the ways. you could certainly divide first and then add, or add and then divide. experimenting with the many different ways can't hurt =)
i get what hes doing but since I already knew how to solve this equation it really complicated it for me but he does an excellent job if you don't know how to go about solving this kind of equation at all.

It does not matter man.. The important thing is that you learn the basic idea about equation :D
You don't have to type X.. u can draw a banana as well :D exact same thing.. We write x to mark that it is unkown u can write alfa, beta, gamma, zeta, heta if u want to ;) just notation ;D

Somehow I doubt youlovemathematics is going to be as good at teaching mat as Sal is.
That's my opinion, b/c I was never able to find ANYONE who could succeed at helping me until I found this channel.

I've never seen it said better. Your videos are helping young and old alike. I am 65 years old and just now getting around to understanding algebra. Learning a new concept gives a person the same thrill a surfer must feel catching a big wave, or a climber reaching a new peak. It's called pride, and it feels good. Thank you so much for helping so many feel proud.
