Epically stupid to touch that fence. If it continues around back and out to the front again, it will be energized. We once had a run with the fence to 3 houses and the siding on one energized. Should've gone with a deck gun as well.
Master Stream would have worked nice here, and kept people away from Live POWER lines. Remember FF 101, plus a lot lot of water real fast would have knocked that down real fast.
im in fire school and also a fire explorer for the cities dept cause im considered a minor. anyways this dept needs alot more training, and the person in command needs to be fired. i havent even been 2 weeks in fire science class and i know not to go near a exposed live wire while fighting defensively next to the wire. glad to see no deaths on this run, you guys are lucky.
A part of me says that this is fake such as (training wise). The way I was trained was that if there are hot lines i.e. power lines down you DO NOT touch anything, you wait until PUD or (whatever power Co. ya'll have over there) to shut down the power. And it sounds like ya'll are walking not shuffling your feet. when hot lines are down you shuffle your feet. But that's just me. nice vid tho.
Wow, who the hell was all that siren for??? There was no-one on your side of the road and you're pegging the Q? You guys must not do many calls and are SUPER excited to be out of the station huh?
fuck that power line i woulda stayed by the front door!!!! given the second camera angle i would have taken a more aggressive attack at the A-B corner
@OBAMAWOLF Kill the Power???? Were they responding in a Power Co Truck or a Fire Engine? leave the electricity to the pros. Good job, fire had a huge head start not a lot to do.
@dug2fire Hey it doesn't matter who you are you can kill the power. And if you can't don't spray water probably the worst idea to introduce water to a live power wire. Here where i'm from if we did that we would ether be given a serious ass chewing or even fired. That is common sense to never put water to electricity.
@OBAMAWOLF it's not as easy as you think, i wasn't trained to cut the power, i was trained to leave it to the electric company especially if the line disconnected from the house and the power is being fed from the primary line which what it looks like in this situation from this point of view. but different states are taught differently in your case, and i'm working on pure opinion and my training
If they had layed a line going in, they could've handled it with that handline. But they would've had to keep the nozzle open, conserving water does no good on a fire like this. You need to overcome the BTU's with GPM's
IF water was an issue why not,, incorporate,, AFFF (FOAM) in to the equation it would have made things easier and made the water go a lot further .........BUT on the hole not bad :
WOW!!! Smoke showing from miles awya and no water supply? must have been a case of the big eye, prolly a rookie co. officer. Was the old man in the blue uniform a cop. Didin't see anything like a white helmet or coat or anything indicating he was a chief or IC. looks like the truck company was lost. All in all not bad for a small volunteer department. Need training and PPE.
Everyone already said it. Its good footage to learn from. Poor tactics and poor tactical objectives. Remember the phrase Everyone Goes Home and live by that from being aware to your Situational Awareness. Its what hurts us the most, in other words tunnel vision. Be safe out there and use our bean, THINK regardless of your orders from the IC. He or She may have tunnel vision as well, be the number one advocate of your safety and everyone elses.
I saw Firemen risk their lives putting water on a flood totaled shell of a building inferno while transformers were popping big time. They knocked the fire out.
If you going to any type of fire get ready like its a structure fire and your going offensive, and if you go on the defense its always easier to take stuff off than put it on.. its just common sense.
Also use ur scba! It would be a terrible thing to get cancer later on, and end ur career early, when all u had to do was take a sec and don the hoods and masks
I'm a dispatcher right now but I'm workin on bein a firefighter/ emt, and eventually paramedic too. I don't pretend to know much about fireground safety beyond the basics, but standing that close to a live wire, for a house that is already toast was a bad idea. The life of one firefighter is more valuable than any number of houses, so y'all be more careful next time. Otherwise good job for doin what u could with the water u had.
I don't know what state this is, but here in California we have breaker poles every 10 poles or so. Break the two poles on either side of the downed lines, sure it'll kill the block but it will not be killing firemen.
I certainly wouldn't have began my initial attack like that either. Fan it out a little and knock out that front door, get up in that fires ass, crank up the pressure a bit and F sake PUT A DAMN MASK ON.
I dont like to monday morning quarterback But they were too close to the line down and the hose line was too small. PS I was thanking the fence could have been charged also.
horrible attempt at attempting to put out a fire. Get inside and make a primary attack. After figuring out the whole structure has flashed and self ventilated, its a total loss. Establish master stream i.e. blitz fire and defensive attack. Learn some PPE basics too. I would be a prob if i did that.
if these guys were paid by the hours they would be rich even include some hazard pay!! no house is worth a firefighters life standing that close to a hot power line should get you put on probation
so your saying to hit it with a deck gun without a water supply established? They were having water issues. You have 2 minutes of water when you hit it with a deck gun. I don't know about yours, but our deck gun is on top of the engine and the angle would be bad for a deck gun since the house is so close to the street and is a single story.
ok i see that everyone is talking about the attack and the live wires...but i didnt see many ppl talk about how none of the firefighters where on air...some without gloves and no nomex hoods...depends on the back u should have went around back and pushed the fire back threw where it had arlready burned, deffinately needs more attack training. and GO BACK TO THE BASICS!!!!!
fuck ballsy thats a true idiot safety officer.... that house was a total loss when you got on scene you should worked the left side away from the power lines pushed the fire to the right side of the house and waited for the power comp
wow...if this was my department...i would make them take this off......safety issues by the power line...then poor attack tactics.....spraying for 10 secs in a window then switching back and forth waste water ur just knocking it down for a second then u let it build right back up....you all could have saved that house better then u did...
Guys...It is isn't a matter of everyone is an "expert"...we go by our training and the grey matter between our ears. Kill the power asap and don't go near or shoot water near a power line that is live. Defensive attack on a structure that is fully involved and protect exposures. Not rocket science. SCBA's are FF 101. Can't do your job or be a hero when you are dead.
why would you be dumb enough to spray near the live line. not trying to be rude or anything but seriously? a live line? yo should wait on the power company. aint no house worth losing your life for.
Great video! Only thing I didn't like is you guys were wearing the SCBA's but thats about it... and maybe the Interior attack... I wouldn't have issued an interior attack on a structure that is at least 80% involved...
Wooo weee!!! those lines will knock your dick in the dirt!! but if you feel comfortable I would not have been that close i dont think... dont use the deck gun if water is an issue good call there! small structure you guys handled it well
Great vid, but a cpl constructive comments with the utmost respect to my fellow bro/sis in the FD. FFs on the handlines that close need to be on air (save your lungs) & FF's were WAY too close to that dwned line. This is fully involved and is a defensive fire attack so going inside as somebody commented is not the best thing. Unless there r lives to save and in that house nobody is left alive don't risk an interior attack. Using 1 3/4 is ok but get a h2o supply and get those 2 1/2's going asap.
Helmet cam is great one one hand because you see what the fire fighter sees up nice and close. The downside is that it's very shaky and gives the viewer (me at least) a headache. Real good video though.
I notices a few SAFETY ISSUES First at 3:17 or so the Nozzle Man was NOT wearing gloves.....2nd you were a little to close to the service drop to the house. but overall it was a good knock down......
i would be willing to say that the nozzle flows more than 100gpm.......you are suppose to pump a fog nozzle at 100psi plus your friction loss.....its ok, i understand u got confused
I don't want to leave and offend you at all so great job. I just didn't know if it was an exterior attack all the way. It was a little hard to tell at times. If so you guys did the right thing.
For a while there it seemed like a one man crew. Where was everyone else. Did you guys have a line going inside...the early stages after you guys got there. The guy on the nozzle just pushed the fire more into the house. You will never put out a fire.Good coverage with the helmet came and keep your self at a safer distance with electricity next time.
