Good review. What possible use is a bottle opener though? Why would you need one in a survival or emergency situation?? Not only that but it reduces the torsional strength of the tool where the cutout for the bottle opener is. Loads of knife makers include pointless bottle openers. Annoying.
@DarkFire515 OMG! I have been in MANY emergency situations where I had a cold bottle of beer in my hand and NO OPENER!! lol Seriously, I use the opener to open beer. I've always been amazed that most men can open a bottle with a lighter or the side of the table but I've always needed.... an opener. ;)
As I'm lazy, I pronounce the name - like "cricket". Don't know if that is correct; don't care! Also, I would call that a box-cutter or utility knife blade: a Wharncliff blade's spine has a graceful curve down to a splinter-picker point. Not being overly critical, just picky (that's me!)...
Roz, just want to say that keep the Japanese knife on hand because Japanese steel hand tools and knife are very good. Usually they last fore ever and as you said, it remains very sharp. The CRKT just put more tools at hand in one piece and it can really help in an emergency. Again your voice is so "kind", even to me, a Spanish speaking man. Thanks for the keep helping us seeing the real normal life everyday use of different products. Good job..!
hey Roz, havent spoken in ages hows things? i'm still watching your vids i promise lol. this tool looks great i was wondering how secure the blade was in the sheath?
@Hellboy5111 I do consider myself lucky to have a knife shop that stocks tons of knives, flashlights, and Maxpedition stuff. Even though I can buy stuff for much cheaper online I like to support the shop so that it stays open and in business. You can google "knife shop" in your area and see if you have one nearby. If not, I guess you have to order online. :(
@bobmellon I actually do know about the "n". Wharncliffe blade is a favorite of mine. My Kershaw Corral Creek Sheepsfoot and CRKT Folts Minimalist also have it. Didn't pronounce it right? My bad.
@RoscoeBa i just thought you were saying warcliffe, i also love the blade style find it very useful and i love your vids by the way, and as i said i wasnt tryin to be overcritical or anything just was trying to inform you if you didn't know =)
@troy5690 Busted! lol, Troy. I can't believe I had a ruler in my hand and said "So, how long is this thing...?" Duh. ;) I still don't know which ones are bigger...mms or cms....
Oh, I want one! That would be so handy to throw into a bag or in the car or.... Well I just need um want one. I want a knife guy or even a knife shop. Oh well I'll get by. Thanks for the review
@TempMpyre haha, for the price I think I just *wanted* one too! I try to support this brick and mortar store guy. I feel very fortunate to have him so that I can go in and look around and talk about cool stuff. I'd hate to lose an awesome shop like that! Maybe you should open one in your town... :)
@worshipthesock Yes, those Pocket Tool Xs are very nice! And you're right, the pry bar is also quite sharp. I guess to be able to jam under staple ends and such.
Looks like a handy tool. I don't understand why some manufacturers still add bottle openers to their designs? I'm in my mid 40's and remember the days of 16oz soda bottles. Everything today is twist off. There are still some small breweries that bottle their beer with cap that require a opener/church key. Those aren't the norm though and it's just as easy to open a bottle with a lighter or a piece of metal. I like the other parts of the tool though.
@1jump2many Two answers: 1) I don't dare drink a beer that has a screw top, and 2) Opening a cap with a lighter is an amazing feat possessed only by men. I've never met a woman that has done that. ;)
@RoscoeBa: Yeah, I pretty much only drink Fat Tire and Maisel's Hefe Weiss myself. Neither of which are twist off. But I look at bottle openers on tools like I look at cork screws on Swiss Army Knives. Both of them are probably more handy in Europe than in the US.
@1jump2many I'm going to keep my eye out for the Fat Tire this weekend. I love me a Hefe. Be in my poll ok? You're a dude...do you take lemon in your hefe? I can NEVER get a guy to take lemon in their beer! Ever. Only the gals... lol
@RoscoeBa: I don't put lemon in Hefe Weiss but a do put a slice of lemon in Krystal Weiss. I was stationed in Germany twice and as they say, when in Rome....... :-) They would add a few grains of rice in the Hefe, I guess to keep it bubbling. I don't do that though. I am fortune to be able to get my favorite Weiss beer, Maisels. You will like Fat Tire, it's a lager from New Berlin breweries in Colorado.
@johncajunmanbrown Because the belt would be in between the forks and you don't risk slipping and cutting the person (or yourself) you're trying to rescue. Take a look at those emergency car tools: they have the cutter not as a blade but in a V-shape. Believe me: when your all pumped up from adrenaline it's hard to keep your hands steady.
@f0xmuld3r Ah, that makes good sense. I was just imagining cutting myself out and I'd want to slash big swipes or saw big cuts away from my body. But your description makes sense. With this tool, both options are there!
Plastic? Molded? Injection? - Roz, I learned all my Maxpedition-specific vocabulary from you. So please act responsibly and do not confuse your most loyal German viewer with impromptu vocabulary... LOL
I guess they call it an injection molded plastic sheath.
@RDPproject I look forward to your Tag! Yah, Jimbo hooked me up with the Drifter. I owe him a review on it. I've not dealt with CRKT CS. That's very good to know!
Is that coffee from "The Human Bean?" CRKT is one of my favorites! I might get my self one of those tools, and if I do, I'm going to bolt that sheath to my sun visor in my truck. Great impromptu review.

problem with this tool is....if you use the pry bar end, the "handle" is a knife blade. That can't be safe.

@ukmoore Ah, good point. Would have to take extra care if using the pry tool. Thx!

@f0xmuld3r It's pretty spiffy. The sheath makes it kind of large but as you see, I'll keep it between the seat of my car and fits nicely. Thx Fox!
RoscoeBa 8 months ago
I see only one problem with that, the end of the tool you'd have to manipulate to get the most use of the prying end is, well, very sharp.
I wish the Pocket Tool X guys would come out with a tool about the size of the Spare tool though, I like their bladeless designs better.
