  • John Madden and Pat Summerall

  • Ahhh... back when the Bills were good.

  • thank you so much, i've been looking for this song for a long time. I wish CBS still used this as their NFL theme song, so much better than what they have now.

  • EASIEST WAY TO GET THIS TO MY DROID?

  • @res340 Do a search on Yahoo or Google, there are a lot of sites that will convert videos to MP3s. Then you should be able to get it on your phone after that.

  • Wow, this is up there with NBC's theme from their last 3 years of covering the AFC. It made you turn the game on at the beginning just to hear it. Like other commenters said, it made you feel like something really big, even historical, was about to happen.

  • Heck, they used this when CBS came back to the NFL in 1997! Then they changed the key for a few years, and now we have the crap we have today.

  • Can Anyone Upload the 2001-2002 Version of the NFL on CBS theme in full?

  • AMAZING THEME SONG!

  • Brings back the day when Dallas was destroying their opponents

  • The best theme of all time. I've watched football for over 40 years. The original Monday Night theme is a strong second. Faith Hill and Hank Williams Junior themes were ridiculous and lacked continuity.

  • How can I download this?

  • Song reminds me of 92-93 49ers vs Cowboys NFC Championship games.

  • This music just screams "big game coming up".

  • legit way to make extra cash online /watch?v=BMPhsRN19Ms

  • cool must see facebook trick /watch?v=Fd0di5HFboY

  • @TMC1982Part2

Pots and Pans is better but i agree with u of better than now

  • Wow! Good job putting this together! Would love this on my mp3 player

  • This was awesome, but the 1986-1988 CBS NFL theme was better.

  • The new one is good but this is one by far the best! Memories!

  • Still the best CBS NFL theme after all these years. A shame it will never be used again.

  • If this is from 1992-1993 why is there a Titans logo in the vid? They were the houston oilers back then

  • @rac19722009 Just like why are the Jaguars, Panthers, Browns, and Texans in there?

  • This is so much better than the theme used today!

  • H.T.T.R.

  • CBS should use this whenever they have the Super Bowl.

  • BEst NFL theme... ever!!

  • @thesportsman48 So True!!!

  • Where can I get this theme?

  • I love this theme man! Thanx for posting TMC1982Part2.

  • Do you think you could use the 1993 game open video from eyeontv the improve the quality of part of this song?

It's from a Washington/Minnesota game intro (appears as a "Related Video) but the part of the song before the announcers start talking is crystal clear.

  • Please tell me you're joking

  • Though I disagree, I can kinda see how you could make that argument, but certainly not for the 1st 20 seconds of it...I don't mind today's theme, it does have a "titan-like" feel to it, it just doesn't have that continuous flow to it like this does...I really don't care for choppy soundin' music, of any genre

  • CBS had the greatest NFL theme ever. EVAR!

  • at :10 in the bottom right hand corner of the teams, who is that dragon?

  • I'm pretty sure that's one of the teams that were part of the now-defunct NFL Europe.

  • GO PANTHERS!!!!

  • Yea, at least Monday night anyway! I hate Dallas.

  • Dude, I am not looking forward to that game!!!!! hahaha

  • lol

  • This is so much better than what CBS uses today. It catches you with the way it opens and makes you feel like something epic is about to happen. The crap CBS uses today is a snoozer. Change it back to this CBS!

  • agreed !

  • Imagine if NBC (if they were still doing the NBA) decided to one day, get up and change "Roundball Rock"? I mean, CBC also messed up big time, by letting go of "The Hockey Theme". To me, this is the quintessential "NFL on CBS" theme. I mean, FOX has never changed their NFL theme, so why does CBS have to go for a total revamp (which finally occured in 2003)? Hopefully, they will at least, leave the college football theme untouched.

  • I couldn't agree with you more, and perhaps what did it was the fact that they had lost football for a few years, then they come back with that lousy modified version of this, and then on to the current theme - when they returned in '98 they should've just gone right back to this home run, but then again this is the incompetent network that dumps shows right in the middle of good runs (Unit, Without a Trace, etc) ...scumbags at CBS!!

  • The 1998 version of this theme was okay, but it was really watered down (and too slow sounding) compared to the original version. The 1999-2000 version seemed rather overcooked w/ its heavy, brassy sound. The 2001-02 version is perhaps my favorite of the Frankie Vincini theme since CBS resumed their NFL coverage, but it's a bit too much on the whimisical side. What made the 1992-93 theme so great was its incredibly, catchy driving force.

  • Amen...echoing what I said in my last post, I"ve just heard from so many different people the level of incompetence at the executive level of this network

  • I agree, this is the best version of this theme. :-) But I still think the raw intensity of the current CBS NFL theme Posthumus Zone is hard to beat! :-D

  • The key problem I have at least, w/ the current CBS NFL theme is that it lacks the infectious catchiness of the 1992-93 theme to balance out the raw intensity.

  • @TMC1982Part2 ... good comments. There seems to be a sense of freshness and simplicity to the original, while yet featuring even more of epic sensibility.

  • Comment removed

  • @TMC1982Part2, knowing NBC, which is even worse than CBS (dead last in the ratings), they probably would, unfortunately. I wouldn't be surprised if they came out with something entriely different if they regain NBA rights. The fact that they use Roundball Rock during the Olympics is encouraging, but means nothing: ESPN used their old NBA theme (2003-2006) during the FIBA World Championships this summer and they retained their theme music for their regular season coverage

  • So many people have no respect for the NFL, and it's ashame!!!

  • GO BUCS!!!!

    Raise the red flag!!!!

    Fire the cannons!!!!

    TOUCHDOWN, TAMPA BAY!!!!

  • go pats baby tom brady is back love this intro better than the new 1

  • man im ready 4 the season 2 start

    GO COWBOYS!

    GO COLTS!

  • hey, do you have an mp3 of this you can send out by any chance?

  • They needed to change their theme. This evokes NFC memories, not AFC memories.

  • Even better - The memories of the NFC were quite interesting...still pretty interesting today, come to think of it.

  • Whoever changed this music does not appreciate the beautiful timelessness of this piece! Or they don't understand how beautifully this catches the viewer's attention and "draws them in" to the telecast? What's wrong with CBS? Why fix something that's not broken?

  • Frankie Vinci, the composer of this theme did an excellent job. I agree that CBS made a big time mistake by dumping this theme from their NFL coverage. It was timeless, catchy, dramatic, and epic sounding (thus perfectly fitting the gladiator-like spectacle aspect of the game) all in one.

  • The early 90's - the glory days of pro football broadcasting on CBS and pro b-ball broadcasting on NBC

  • What about that 8-bit remix to the 1992-1993 "NFL on CBS" Theme: Cleaner and Longer Version??

  • Why is my comment marked as span when I'm not signed in? What's bad about it? I should be familiar with it. I wrote it down!

  • CBS has the next Super BowI I believe...it'd be really cool if they brought back this theme for it!

  • this was the best nfl theme song ever on any channel

  • BRING IT BACK

  • This was also used for ABC radio (MNF) back in the mid-to-late 90's when CBS wasn't doing football games.

This is the runner up for CBS's theme music to the 1981-1986 version for me.

  • That wasn't ABC - that was Westwood One - the CBS radio division

  • wow, the last 20 seconds are so amazing for me. Sitting up at 2am in the morning, dark bedroom armed with a shortwave radio - listening to fuzzy weak signaled "armed forces radio network" with tons of background hiss. I also used to tape this intro and play it before me and my mates had games of Madden 92 on the megadrive!

  • can u upload this years superbowl theme

  • Old School!

  • By the way, for those asking, the original 1992 theme was simply called "Super Bowl" and was composed by Frankie Vinci.

  • how could i put this on my cell

  • i like this one....but hte new one is good too. football is the only sport that hasnt changed stations thats why i like it the best...NBA needs to go back to NBC!

  • Why is there no Jaguars or Bucs logo on Florida?

  • This was use on CBS radio up until a few years ago.

  • The Current NFL on CBS theme kicks ass

  • True, but I rather bring back this one

  • CBS has used several different themes for the NFL over the years, but none better than this one. I've always loved this theme.

  • This harkens back to the glory days of the modern NFL...awesome theme song. So, so many wish CBS would go back to it

  • ShawnieMac, I recall what you're talking about. I'll never forget the Jaguars upset of Denver in 1997. For whatever reason I had to listen to that game on radio.

    Great song though!!!

  • i use to listen to this for redskins games. Something about CBS repesented rugged NFC east games in December. Now we have terrible Bradshaw laughing at nothing before the game starts.

  • I remember this theme from my childhood before my dad and I would watch NFL on Sundays. This is a great theme. I do like the NFL on CBS theme that they have now but this one is way better. Really the only good one's today are NFL on Fox Theme and Sunday Night Football on NBC.

  • This was a great theme, including the updated version when CBS Television got the NFL back. Some may not know, after CBS-TV lost the NFL contract in '94, CBS Radio continued to use this theme for their NFL coverage up until the TV side got the NFL back in '98. The Radio side then switched accordingly to the updated theme thereafter.

  • the best theme of all time.

  • i remeber watching the jaguars vs the titans, 2000 afc title game. Brings back memories...

  • I remember hearing this as a child before Redskins games.Everything in sports and music has become less creative and catchy.

  • I agree...I remember listening to this theme when NFC games were on CBS more often. It still didn't take away the sting of seeing the Saints lose to the Falcons or 49ers :-/

  • i didn't know the texans were a team in 92-93

  • They weren't. The visuals you saw were just the ones the uploader chose to use on his/her vid. The Houston Texans were born in 2002.

  • i was being sarcastic with that post.

  • I saw no Kansas City Chiefs on that map or Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • To tell you the truth, I like this version better than the 2002 version !!!

  • i rember this from a long time ago

  • This original version of this theme song is far and away the best

  • Imagine this theme being played before an NFC East rivalry game today

  • I want this played at my funeral

  • CBS made a gigantic mistake getting rid of this song. Much like NBC getting stripped of their flawless NBA coverage.

  • This theme music (including the 1998-2002 remake) is the true reason why I watch NFL on CBS and this is the Best theme music of all time. They should bring back this theme music and replace the current theme, "Posthumus Zone." God I love watchin' NFL on CBS.

  • The local (Kansas) CBS network still uses this song.

  • Same with Detriot Lions. And i think San Diego might as well.

    Takes me back to Jets/49ers.

  • boy does this take me back to Cowboys/49ers or Giants/Eagles

  • The audio is lousy. It is staticy and choppy.

I wish you have checked your audio before downloading. This really sucks audio wise, very poor quality.

  • Well you better take it or leave it. I posted this "cleaner and longer" version for a reason!

  • At least it's better than the first. I applaud TMC for his efforts.

  • It is interesting to see CBS give up on such a good theme -- when you consider that they have been using the same college theme since the 80's -- and their NCAA basketball theme is so ingrained in the culture that every pep band in the country seems to have it in its selection.

  • All other sports themes must bow down...

  • I remember this intro and they'd show a montage of film clips from seasons past and there was one of Raiders QB Darryl Lamonica chucking the ball as he always did.

  • I MENT THIS THEME NOT THE SHORTER THEME

  • By far the greatest sports theme song of all time. You have drama, anticipation, and adrenaline all in one piece. CBS made a mistake trying to re-do this classic ('98 was OK, but '99-'02 were disasters)

Thank you for posting this... memories galore...

  • CBS made the biggest mistake of all time by getting rid of this theme COMPLETELY in 2003. GOD THAT PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH TO THIS DAY!

  • The MTV people that ran CBS are guilty of this. The problem is if they returned to the 1992 theme, they'd be called guilty of going 1990's by using that theme, since it was used seven seasons (1992-93; 1998-2002).

  • I dont know I actually liked the '98 one the best; the 99-2000 theme was garbage, and the 2001-2002 theme didnt really bother me that much, but I would honestly take the 92-93, 98, or 2001-02 theme over the bullshit they have on now

  • You, me and everyone else, too!

  • AMEN!!!!

  • I must admit that I was a toddler (about three or four years old) at the time when this theme hit, but I'll take this one, the ones they used from 1986-1989, the 1990-1991 one and the ones from 1998-2002 over the one they use now, even though I'm a rap person myself (I listen to mainly rap music from late 1970's-2004).

  • nah NBA on NBC is the best theme of all time.

  • agree..... this is a close second...

  • By Far The 3 Best NFL Themes That CBS Sports Had Was The 1986-1989 Pots and Pans Theme And The 1992-1993 Theme and Of Course The 1983-1989 NFL Today Theme When You Herd Either Of Those 3 Themes U KNEW IT WAS TIME FOR CBS SPORTS COVERAGE OF THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE!!!!!!!

  • Why the hell did CBS have to go FOX with that damn rap crap theme they have now?

  • Do you have the complete 1987 NFL on CBS theme as well as the 1987 NBA on CBS theme?

  • file sucks, it won't play more than 3 seconds at a time

  • Great theme.

  • Best. Football. Theme. Ever. This brings back so many good childhood memories. Thank you so much for putting this up!

  • This is awesome! I miss this NFL theme song a lot!

  • Thanks for putting the complete version up.
