Hi, when i want a zx81 to go on a flat screen i tune in a NES and plug the zx81 in, change the sound standard to BG or DK, set the colour standard to pal and then use the fine tuner, at around +15,+14 ect.. It is a pain to set up but works for me!
This was not too bad a game at the time, but the ZX81 software did improve over the years (and has continued to improve) - try the RWAP Software site for some of the latest software for download
Well im sure that alien would like to carry out its threat, but suppose its more likely you would destroy the keyboard by touching it...being a spectrum
I think I only managed to get this to load two or three times and found it very difficult to play. But it was one of the first genuine 3D shoot em ups ever....
@wanksta444 It uses the standard RF cable you'd find on any old games console or computer. You should be able to find them at any electronics shop, or for pennies on ebay.
Wow... by ZX81 standards, this is actually damn impressive. Yeah, it's jerky, but being able to get a remotely convincing 3D shoot-em-'up on a machine that basic is impressive by itself, especially when you see the oncoming ships close up.
I've also found the flickering to be less obvious when I alter the aperture of the lens. Allowing more or less light alters the response time of the receptor in the camera, and reduces the flicker, when I get the settings just right.

Keep using the CRT. HDTV is wank for retro computers/consoles.

Framerate isn't the issue, that'd be shutter speed.. I'm guessing you're trying to shoot a 50hz crt at 60 fps or vice versa?
I'd only suggest forcing the shutter speed to either 1/50-sec or 1/60-sec accordingly.

That'd no doubt work, but I don't have such constrols on my camera.
I'm using a superzoom, which is like an SLR without the removable lenses or the decent light receptor. Great for stills, but very limited for video.

you can get rid of flicker by changing the shutter speed on the camera ..

Maybe you could try recording with a lower framerate to get rid of the flicker, if that's possible. It usually works with CRT monitors.

Good idea, I could try that.

@RABBIDGamfan you're getting 60hz flicker... change the shutter speed to conform

200% RETRO!!! And the flickering TV screen makes it even more real than if it was grabbed from an emu!

Hehe... yup.
I love emulators, but they simply don't give you the same experience as playing on the original hardware.
