  • @tmvestbo Not sure, mate. I probably got it from either guitarbt or guitarbackingtracks - both with a dot and a com (stoopid YouTube blocking comments with links)

  • I was wondering the same thing ... shame on you for blacking out the Ibanez logo!!!

  • I've been looking for this backingtrack for days now, can't seem to find it ='(...Do you know where to find it? Do you still have it??

    Love your tone btw ;)

  • Why theres no ibanez logo on your guitar? Have U erased it?

  • @ismelljello Guthrie?? Only in my dreams lol :-p

  • lol i didnt know guthrie govan played shawn lane tunes

  • those are some pretty gay moustache inlays

  • Good vid man. Did you fall when the solo started?

  • it's quite good. No one can produce the sound or the speed of Shawn Lane but thank you for playing his stuff the best you can. he was an absolute genius.

  • lmao at the ending

  • i can play this song. i learned the musicians institute version though. ill put a cover up soon. and im 17 too :) and a guitar teacher :)

  • I placed a video comment to your song, after your words i decided to record my own take on this wonderful piece, please leave a comment !

    Regard, Joost

  • really nice job man im impressed :)

  • Awesome tone ! I really liked your playing as well :)

I can see your having a hard time with those chops, but then again, that IS Shawn Lane your playing, so I don't blame you !

Good work mate, and props to you for respecting Shawn Lane, probably the greatest guitarist ever ^^

  • @Emil315 Thanks for that 8) Shawn was amazing alright

  • hey there! love your tone man! I'm practing this song too with the same backing track, also working on the guthrie govan cover of get you back. I'm 17 at the moment but I hope to improve my skill over the years to a great extend. Check my videos out and tell me what you think of them;)

  • @Joostieboy Good start mate. I wouldn't have dreamed of attempting Shawn Lane - or Steve Vai - at 17. Good work 8)

  • just one piece of advice is you should work on your chops alot more, get those built up and youll be fantastic! i love how good you play the slow parts, you have great feel. your always with me always with you cover is my favorite. but ive watched most of your videos and you just seem like a real cool guy. your improvs are good too, the only thing you need to do is clean up that really fast technical stuff. but ya check my stuff out if you want. im young so still not at your level lol

  • @rebrules Yeah - I've gone through I think 2 (relatively brief) periods of actually practising technique in all my playing time - and not until I had already been playing for (the first time) over 10 years, so had developed a lot of pretty set habits that aren't the best for highly technical playing.

I've decided I should accept that a bit more - though I do enjoy pushing myself technically some of the time.

  • thanks man ive posted some shitty videos lol :P when i get back from this rutt ill upload some stuff.. been practicing alot :P n i intend on buyin d vigier so in time i will cover my guitar guru... :P
  • @nevmem I've read a lot of praise of the Vigiers. Never actually laid eyes on one IRL

  • shawn lane had psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis from small...

he was on some steroids and thts why d weight gain

i wont say great but a very good cover my man... cause shawn lanes speed is virtually impossible.. paul gilbert said tht it sounds like shawn lane plays with 2 hands but it actually playing with his left hand only...

    :)

    dude

ive been rackin my head 2 get such a tone

    plz help

  • @nevmem Thanks for the info - and the compliment; "good" is as much as I could hope for, when covering Shawn O_o

The guitar is custom (described elsewhere, but DiMarzio Breed humbucker). Using AMT Electronics Fatal Tube distortion pedal, and using LAConvolver as a plugin in Garageband to add a cabinet sim - a couple of 4x12s iirc.

  • lol that was an amazing tribute and some great guitarist comedy thrown in

  • @thegoldensheep Thanks mate 8)

  • how did he die?

  • @lego398 I haven't been able to find out the exact cause, but he was morbidly obese and smoked like a chimney, which can't have helped. :-(

  • true, but it was fun 8)

  • nice job! I loved the ending!

  • ;-)

    Thanks mate

  • Great work man! This song is scary indeed!!

  • That it most definitely is. Thanks 8)

  • interesting that you use a thumb pick?

  • A major benefit is that I don't drop it anywhere near as much as a flatpick ;-) It also allows me to switch easily between finger-picking and flat-picking. I blogged about it recently on my website - url over in the more info box 8)

  • M really sorry but intepretation along with the guitar playing is poor!

  • Don't be sorry - just be specific ;-)

As it stands you've not said anything useful. I'd like to hear (read) what you have to say, but if you just leave it at "poor" without elaboration I won't bother

  • @tsumabiken

A little more treble wouldn't hurt.

As for elaboration, I think you have a lot of work to do on your alternate and legato runs, but you understood the spirit on the song.

    Keep practicing :)

  • Yeah - I've always had trouble increasing the treble (and definition) of my tones without getting buzzy and thin :-/

And also yeah re the tech. Trying to cover Shawn really shows up the fact that I've never properly practised my technique ;-) Especially those string skipped legato runs are just crazed - and require a hell of a lot of finger strength as well as speed and accuracy.

  • that's a mean comment 1st off this dudes got balls to even attempt to cover shawn lanes stuff and even dudes like guthrie govan can't do it like shawn lane so i can't expect someone to be as good as shawn only person close to him is guthrie and marshall harrison

  • for that little harmonic tapping section that he does i think you shoulda just done your own thing in that section, cause lets be honest none of us are gonna be able to play that part like shawn did lol

  • You're absolutely right. It didn't really occur to me that I could have done something different (duh!), but that would have been the best idea for sure 8)

  • Obviously no one can even come close to matching Lane's tone... but I think you did an good job with yours. 2:02 - 2:10 was pretty well done considering how crazy it actually is, good cover! also nice guitar tech magazine in the background.

  • Crazy it is indeed O_o I like covering Shawn's music (or trying to) because it's so awesome, but I hate trying because it's so hard and scary ;-)

  • Nice cover! I have a question - have you downloaded backing track, or made it by yourself? If you'd be so kind, please send me a link or backing track...

    Cheers,

    Peter

  • Thank you 8)

I found them online. The weird thing is I can't find them now, despite (I'm sure) using the same search terms. Don't have them on this computer either. If I get a chance I'll upload them and send you a link. The right search terms ought to find it though (I would have thought)

  • that was great....and funny at the end..hahaha

  • ;-)

    Thanks 8)

  • Great cover, the 26th september is a day of sorrow.

  • Thanks for the comments, all 8)

  • Great cover of one of Lanes most beautiful songs,

Im looking down smiling at you

  • well done man! I think he might have died at 39 years of age... he was born a couple of months after me!

  • whoops - maths FA1L for me ;-)

  • awesome!! nice song and great playing
