I'd almost forgotten that PIF. Loved it at the time- they showed it quite a bit on STV. Still enjoy the humour at the expense of the hapless husband. Who'd be a Dad.
when i firts saw this i thought they would have charlie the cat pop up and that kid and say ' charlie says if your house is on fire don't act like the dad '.
No this is a Bob Godfrey cartoon, the children being lowered before the mum came out, was added later, as the earlier version had the kids getting out last.
I hadn't ever seen this PIF until it was uploaded to TV Ark many moons ago, but the bit at the end where the chap's wife flattens him still gives me a giggle.
This is one of the PIFs that gave me nightmares when it was released! I was only 3 at the time and as a result, I've became more safety aware now than ever before thanks to this clip.
100% agree about Fire PIFs, they scare the hell out of me. Wish they'd bring them back on TV, because we're still having too many lives lost via house fires!
Have you seen the new one yet? It's yet again indicating how important, it is to have a working smoke alarm, and a British actress (forgotten her name) stars in it.
A comical PIF from the 80's? Who would have thought it! Most of them were quite scary. Good clip.

Narrator: How would you act, to keep your family intact?
Me: First, I wouldn't try and run DIRECTLY into the fire!

these are how PIF films should be, some of the car or fire safety ones today are just disturbing!

Ones that gave me nightmares were fires and Fridges ... oh yes and "that darned cat" - Charley Says

I liked the one with fire portrayed as a chuckling menace.

I love how half-arsed the rhyme pattern is.

The half-arsed rhyme pattern was very common in some PIFs

It was, actually.

That's right - it is! As "Veronica Cooper" would say!

Sounds like one of Cyril 'That's Life' Fletcher's, 'Odd Odes'
