  • Personally, I prefer the Glass stories. I think Salinger was disappointed he couldn't write Seymour's poems himself.

  • Why couldn't you guys just leave Salinger alone? Did you expect him to invite you in for coffee?

  • Oh pssh. J.D. brought it on himself. If he could only act like an adult, people wouldn't be so curious.

  • @XfalseXflagX Uh, okay. . .if it was possible for him to "bring it on himself" by keeping quiet, minding his own business & simply living his life.

  • living his life by acting in a controlling manner with every single person close to him, exclusively dating women half his age, drawing attention to his work by not letting it be published in a normal manner (that would actually allow his short stories to die a normal death)... yeah he really did himself some favors huh?

  • @XfalseXflagX --- I can't get inside JD's head to tell you why he wanted to be alone but from what I've read he seemed to think that some parts of american culture were poison. Especially celebrity worship. I expect most americans would not be able to understand that since they tend to believe fame, adulation and praise are great things. They aren't. Particularly for writers that want to cut through the BS but for just about everybody else too. He points that out in "Catcher".
