@XfalseXflagX --- I can't get inside JD's head to tell you why he wanted to be alone but from what I've read he seemed to think that some parts of american culture were poison. Especially celebrity worship. I expect most americans would not be able to understand that since they tend to believe fame, adulation and praise are great things. They aren't. Particularly for writers that want to cut through the BS but for just about everybody else too. He points that out in "Catcher".
Personally, I prefer the Glass stories. I think Salinger was disappointed he couldn't write Seymour's poems himself.
