Ive never seen this before either. I was 13 when it was originally shown in 1976 (NOT the 60's) It's absolutley brilliant, as is the book. Unfortunately, as much as I admire Martin Clunes the most recent attempt to bring this back to our screens was a disaster......I just want to remember it like this, as it should be.
I don't think it possible to convey just how much we loved this show-it saved us on the week ends from the horrible work-a-day world.. incredibly, it aired in the Texas Panhandle on PBS in the late 60s- we raised our kids on this and the combination of this Theme Music, Butterflys, Monthy Python,Good Neighbors, The Avengers music made us all feel alive... when I heard this theme again well, the feeling that came over me was happy & sad both- we've lost a lot since then.
I'm 24 (english) and just borrowed the series dvd from the uni library and I too love the series. Its quite surreal and abstract really. I would have had him not go back to his wife, as I thought that was the only unrealistic main feature in the story arc of the 1st series. I would have had him commit suicide ambiguously, or perhaps end in foreign lands reflecting on his former life with a business man on his hols. I'm going to get the 3 series boxset, but apparently it goes down hill after S1.
Thanks. I'd almost forgotten how much I enjoyed this show. Super...Great. Like Weasel spit strained through a cheesecloth...(or whatever the line was about the awful wine)
Thanks for uploading this. I've been wanting to see it since it wasn't included on the DVDs and, although the characters essentially just recite their catch phrases, it still makes me laugh.

Beautiful! Entirely in the Perrin spirit - go overboard and then wonder why it isn't as satisfying as you'd thought it'd be.
