Hey we are putting on a tribute event for Ari Up in Bristol, UK (30.07.11) with Tessa Pollitt, Hollie Cook, Viv Albertine, Adrian Sherwood and Mark Stewart! Please watch our ad youtube.com/watch?v=qE5BCjxH5gM and check out our facebook event if you are interested? Big Love
Can anyone id the two women (and from which band) at 2:15 or so..."..we're just four people, not two women and two men..." definitely not Au Pairs...so who?
Thanks for posting this, really interesting and great live footage. I saw them play at the Rainbow with Don Cherry - he played an absolutely brilliant set in support and jammed with them on their encores. They were SUCH a good band when they had Bruce Smith on drums and that massive bass sound.
Thanks for discovering this great doc! I'm already downloading it from the torrent.
The slits are great and talented musicians, their music is pretty unique, with that rich mix of dub-rocksteady-funk-punkrock-pop that nobody else has ever done so well.
I missed them just for a few days on my last trip to glasgow, I'm wishing to see them live!
Thanks for posting this - really interesting and great performance footage. I saw one of their "rumoured" performances with Don Cherry - at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park in the late 70's or very early '80s. He played an absolutely brilliant set in support, I believe with Lou Reed's backing band, and jammed with the Slits on their encore. One of the best gigs I've been to - they were SUCH a good band when they had Bruce Smith on drums and that huge bass sound...
i have this on dvd the doco isnt very long its with another doco called punk in england,by a german director called wolfgang buld....he did another one as well called punk in london, which has interviews with different punk bands.....would have been great to have been there during that time.
Wow, I'd only heard small bits of The Slits before...not sure if I like them though, but they had some balls (well, ovaries lol) to get on stage and be shambolic and anarchic...excellent upload!
I love marvin song of "heard it through the grapevine" but the way the slits I didn't think I could like it but I do. so different but sticks to the feel.
I remember them from '77, still love the old school punkrock scene to this day. I must confess The Slits never did anything for me musically but I liked the fact women picked up an instrument. It must be good news for their fans they reformed. They never were my cup of tea but good luck to them, they have their rightful place in Punkrock history.
discrimination and lack of equality played a big part in the slits ethos inthe late 1970's enjoy it Manila - then go back to bon jovi where you belong mate !
'ok', all I'm saying is that the riot grrl punk is/was just as tough or tougher. Shows where guys were told to 'get to the back!' and let the lesbians through! no dewds in the pit! i.e. bikini kill in their day

Does anybody have video of them doing "Twighlight Zone" (where the bullet hits the bone) from Golden Earing?
Georgie2047 1 year ago
Interesting how Ari always manages to 'dance' against the beat.
Heard it through the bassline.

Women don't rock as well as men, but I'd pick a Rock chick over an office girl any time of the day.
Liked it when The Slits started dancing. They looked real cute.
Who were the girls with the butch haircuts and German accents? Was it Kleenex / Liliput? Now that's one band who's video I want to see.

think it was kleenex they did a track Heidi's Head
