  • awesome review i might pick up this one . i love your reviews.

what games would you recommend for a gamer inbetween casual and hardcore?

  • Chancellor + Stash

Every one of my local gamers vowed to never play with those two cards on the table at once after a game with me. I literally got a Provence every turn after turn 3.

  • The comment about the black borders needs to readdressed. I used to play Magic: The Gathering a decade ago and the basic set had white borders (Unlimited and Revised). If the borders are white, you won't see the wear, but you will instead see grime and dirt. Black borders might show some wear, but you never get the feeling that you have crud on your cards.

    I prefer the black borders.

  • i played my daughter too but she said it was too hard.

  • awkward moment when I think this is going to be League of Legends content. awkies...

  • where is duel of ages review?

  • @SuperSimmel You mean sleeves?

  • Wow, I need to have this game, the idea behind expanding and customising your own deck in against enemy players is just awesome.

  • Dicetower, I just want to inform you of a great game released in Sweden 2010, a game called Repello. Sure, it's in swedish but still are very easy to learn :D

  • Would you ever draw a copper from the draw pile? I can't figure out how this would happen? There's no "cost" for it.

  • @jbtvs If you had an action card that gave you another buy, then you could buy a card with all your money, and then on your second buy you could take a copper for free.

  • My friend opened my eyes to Dominion about a month ago. Now, we own every expansion respectively. Buy this game.

  • let me get this straight... you have to pay 6 coins in order to get 3 coins?

  • @LittleBlackSparrow Let's say you draw your hand, and you have three treasure cards; they are all coppers and only worth a total of three coin. Your buying power is limited there. But if you have pulled a gold card, which is three coins in one card, then you can see that it's worth the six coin to buy it.

Of course, it's a tastier treat to be gobbled up by a thief.

  • @jovtheamazing is there another way to get money? it sounds like everytime you buy money you loose money

  • @LittleBlackSparrow The mine will increase your coin's value: playing the Mine makes a copper into a silver (but you trash the copper) and makes a silver into a gold (but you trash the silver). In this way, you aren't "spending" money to make more... But you are spending an action and loosing a good coin from your hand.

It could be argued that too much copper is a bad thing to your hand (it's better to have one card that has the buying power for three cards). Starting to make sense?

  • @jovtheamazing One thing, the treasure card you get after trashing with mine goes back to your hand, so you don't lose that from your hand. And yes, it's supposed to keep decks clean and effective (copper-only decks are pretty bad, watched a friend of mine pull an 13 action combo today to end with only 11 coins to spend, 5 coppers which were everything he had and 6 bonus).

  • @LittleBlackSparrow Here's the reply to what you were really asking. You don't really spend money. The Treasue cards (Copper, Silver, Gold) you play give you money to buy for. But then the Treasure cards go to your discard pile, which eventuelly will be shuffled into a new draw pile. So Treasure cards are never used up, they will be played again and again.

  • Have you ever played Agricola?

  • @Drakethatsme Stone age is probably better.

  • i bought it a long time ago for about 125$ and now it's only 30$ :S

  • Now I want to buy it... It's freakin cool.

  • look at this here avatz, net change , to .

  • what are some guys like 'Dominion'?

  • tom vasel rocks!

  • Excellet review! Dominion is one of my favourites: simple, varied and always fun! =) The only downside of this game is that the basic game doesn't always have much interaction between players, but I think expansions are doing a great job to change that.

I just purchased Alchemy expansion, and I am SO looking forward to test it. ^^

    Boardgames <3

  • If there are ANY Star trek: Deep Space Nine fans who just watched this review I'm sure you agree with me that it's an amazingly weird and crazy coincidence that there's a game called DOMINION and that it's made by a company called RIO GRANDE... wow... sometimes I don't understand the world...

  • I have to be honest - I just don't see a lot of gameplay there.

  • hi there is a Dominion online game that is a part of the Star Trek map if you look around you will see the space game, you should check it out, that s where i play,

  • OH! theres an online game where!!

  • The comment that he makes in the very end that this game is not playable with more than 4 player is not entirely true as if you have for instance a extension like Dominion Intrigue you can set up a game for 5 - 6 player be adding the number of victory points in the game. The rules explain how that is done.

  • The comment that he makes in the very end that this game is not playable with more than 4 player as if you have for instance a extension like Dominion Intrigue you can set up a game for 5 - 6 player be adding the number of victory points in the game. The rules explain how that is done.

  • I've purchased so many games thanks to your videos. Thanks.

  • This game is indeed fun. One game had the gardens as one of the 10 decks. Another game got REALLY nasty with Thief AND Witch AND Throne Room.

  • Hi, would this game be fun for only two people?

  • @drOffset yeah dosent really matter its still awesome

  • Looks boring...

  • @GuitarzLover trust me its not when you get going

  • @GuitarzLover Nevermind, I checked this review again and it looks awesome xD.

  • @GuitarzLover were you expecting mouse trap?

  • This is an incredibly fun game! A must-have for your collection.

  • @luidavinci yeah

  • i love this game i dont own it but my cuzins do and thats what we play every time im there

  • If you're regularly depleting the copper deck, you're playing very ineffectively. Copper is worse than most cards you might have in your deck, and consequently many strategies try to eliminate them from the deck. About the only time you *want* copper is when playing a gardens deck.

  • you have never seen a money pile depleted? we seem to to that with copper's almost every game, but we don't end it there, we only end the game if the 6pt victory card pile is gone or 3 of the action card piles are gone! Other wise its game on!

  • @f0zzyguy If you *ever* deplete the copper pile (barring maybe a many-player game with the Ambassador), you are probably doing it wrong.

  • @fredmt8507 hhm well whenever we have a woodcutter out or any other card with an extra buy we usually pick up a copper if we can't affford/want anything else. Just how we play I guess.

  • @f0zzyguy This is a common and understandable mistake by beginners, but in the vast majority of games, it would be better to buy nothing than to add an additional Copper to your deck. Every Copper in your deck gives you one more chance to not draw Gold.

  • ... to play them out to get those victory points. Then it adds some serious strategical thinking. Regardless of vast amount of cards available in the box the game still gets repetitive as you remember the cards and they come up again. At the end it gets sort of ''automatic''. After five times of play (though I have only played a two player session so far) the game gets monotonous. It's good if you have both the Dominion and D.Seaside, you are a fan of the series and have 45$ to spend on cards

  • 45$ on each print of the series and you like to have more than 1500 cards and if you are a card game fanatic you will also like to sleeve them with good sleeves so the cards don't wear off which means adding additional 60$ - 70$ for sleeves only. And for those travelers (as I am) the carrying of the game will not be a headache only if you make some case, box, holders, tray etc. for those cards.

  • @Valdinsh You're paying $60-$70 for sleeves? Are these gold plated, titanium sleeves? That's a ridiculous price you're paying for 15 packs of sleeves. Also, you should be able to get Dominion and its expansions for around $30-$35 a piece.

  • There are sleeves that cost $1.20 (a pack of 100). I used those for my Warhammer: invasion. If you know the game then you also know that there's almost no shuffling. Though after few games the sides of couple of sleeves split apart. Then there are the $3.60 (a pack of 50) sleeves which I use for the Race of the galaxy. In that game cards can wear off quickly so you need more enduring sleeves. The same goes for Dominion - you need very good sleeves if you don't want to change them every few games

  • I haven't experienced the problems you've experienced with the sleeves when I do an overhand shuffle. Perhaps down the road I'll be tempted to spend $3.60 for a 100 pack of sleeves as well if I get the same problems, but I've played several games of Dominion and haven't had any problems. Happy gaming!

  • now simple math: 2 x $3.60 (for 100 sleeves) x 15 (1500 cards - all Dominion series) = $75 (Latvian/Estonian sleeve prices)

Also the Dominion in Estonia and Latvia costs $50. Sadly but Europeans have to face a lot more higher prices than people in US.

Definitely not. Every single time I have changed those 10 decks, played different strategies but because of the simplicity and because there's only 25 types of different cards the game does become mechanical and a bit boring.

  • @Valdinsh The game gets repetitive because you remember the cards and they come up again? I'm not sure if you're playing with only one combination of the 10 decks of action cards, but I've found that my strategies, pace, duration, and number of cards in my final deck vary greatly from game to game based on the deck combinations. I don't have either expansion yet and haven't needed them to cure boredom. Show me a person with one way of playing, and I'll show you a person who should lose often.

  • It happens so playing with two players (maybe three as well), although it's slightly different with four. I got the chance to play a four people round and it was a lot more fun, hence I assume that a 5 - 7 people game would much, much more better.

Final statement - this game is good and really fun with 5 and up people though then you need two Dominion and/or Intrigue, Seaside

  • I'm a card game fanatic. I got a print of Dominion: Intrigue after watching Tom's review and reading loads of other reviews and seeing the game played out in real life. It's is easy to learn, colorful, fast. Though, the game mechanics get boring as there's not much to do than buy cards (roughly said). The only way I see the game more difficult would be radically reducing the amount of victory, action victory, treasure victory cards so that players are forced to buy action cards ....

  • This just convinced me to this game. Thanks for the review!

  • Awesome job, Tom! I love your down to earth, no-fluff reviews. I saw an earlier review from another team on Dominion, and their review didn't interest me. Your review on the other hand was far easier to understand and for a reason I can't explain was just much more exciting. Maybe it's just because you're such a cool dude. Keep it up.

  • second.

  • I feel like you could've phrased a lot of things "better" (although, that could just be me).

For example, you kept calling the "stacks" of cards decks, in Dominion, they are called Supply Piles. Not that you have to use supply pile, I just think it's good to imply that all of the cards are the same (where as "decks" are usually varied and random).

For example, dominion comes with 25 different stacks of cards that you'll use to build your deck during the game.

No sweat, you just 'peeved' me.

  • @TripwireBeast keep in mind that Tom's speaking to people who may have never played the game. When you're doing that, it's probably best to speak in laymen's terms. "Dollars" instead of "Coppers" because you associate Dollars with making purchases. Decks instead of supply piles because everybody knows what a deck of cards looks like. He's trying to explain the game in uncomplicated terms rather than administer the rules.

  • Totally agree.

I played this game just the last night the first time and I had some trouble understanding the rules, due' to the people trying to explain them to me, were talking with the in-game terms about the rules. This video cleared a lot more up to me.

  • And I'm sure he's proud of it. :-)

  • First, no dollars. Just treasure.

I played it for the first time today. An amazing game. Easily overtakes any CCG available. It does what CCGs try to do (playing with limited resources the best way possible).

  • This is easily my favorite card game ever. My friend and I have been playing magic the gathering for over 7 years and we both agree that this game is so much better

  • Question: Do you have to fulfill all of the "actions" on the action cards played if you play one? or can you play an action card but only fulfill a portion of it?

  • Nope, just because you have an action doesn't mean you have to use it. However if you play a card that gives you more cards you must draw the cards.

  • i played this game yesterday and for people who have never played it its a little complicated at first but as you go you start to understand how the game is played but other than that i think this is actually a pretty good game i would give it a 5 out of 5

  • Tom, please do another one for Intrigue.

  • Great review for a great game.

The game is as easy to learn as Tom shows on the review.

Bought the game, and in no time I was playing with my 10 yr old daughter.

Thanks for the review Tom! Keep them coming! :D

  • He talked about up to 25 decks in the box and how you can take certain ones out to modify gameplay.

I was wondering, does each deck have something that differentiates it from the other decks? Like unique artwork on the back or something, so you can divide the cards at end game. (I'm referring to the action cards, obviously)

  • The box lets you store the cards based upon what they are. Each type has 10 cards. There are a set of cards with a different colored back that is used to select what cards will make up the game. These remain separate and are not part of the game play. It's actually all very well organized so you can quickly build a different 'board' each time you play.

  • Played it with 3 others at a game day, was a ton of fun, most games did end with the 6 point cards going.

  • Just played for the first time this weekend. Great game, I'll be picking it up at my FLGS this week. Very easy to learn, tons of replayability. Some of the art and symbols could have been better (why are copper, silver and gold not colored copper, silver and gold??), but these are small quibbles, the game is well balanced and intuitive. Highly recommended.

  • I bought this game last night and I can't wait to get it. Fantastic review!

  • we play with 5 players by adding 2 more kingdom card piles and ending the game when 4 are depleted. it works pretty well. also, to reduce wear and tear on the cards you can put them in sleeves. the cards won't fit in standard sleeves, but you can get special sized ones to fit. if you don't wan to spend the money you can always "pile" shuffle.

  • You can get the Mayday Games Card Sleeves, 100 per pack for $2.25. Beats buying the $45 game again!

  • 1) take that cards affect all players, there's no ganging up on the leader (or any particular player)

    2) this game is not about how you play your hand, what is a no-brainer most of the time, but about what to buy and when

    3) there are bad cards (curse card) and getting rid of a card can be really hard, but buying one card that wasn't best is nowwhere near disaster

  • actually, you are wrong on all accounts. You cannot select a "bad" card since you buy cards on each turn, and there really are no "bad" cards to buy. You don't have THAT many choices, because most of the time you buy what you can afford. Also, there is a "defense" card which works against ALL the "Take That" cards..and those cards are really really fun because they provide interaction (otherwise a game would feel to much like a solitaire experience).

Anyways, your impressions are quite wrong.

  • thanks for the review!

  • .... Now I want to play

  • you shoud start selling this games, and shiping them. Becouse not everyone can find it in "his" shop.

  • There's tons of online shops for this kind of games... google this game and you'll know what I mean...
