I was nervous that because of your new gig you weren't going to be at VidCon. I'm so glad you are! And yes...I remember the end of college being completely surreal. I had no idea what I was going to be doing, but then, things somehow fall together. You're a really bright guy Steve, so I'm certain things will fall into place for you too.
I am a pretty new subscriber and I've been watching all your videos and you are my new favourite thing on youtube! how do you not have more subscribers?!
I'm so very happy that you hosted an episode of truthorfail because after watching a couple of your videos, I must say that I subscribed. How did I not know you were on youtube until now? You sound so friendly and personable, you could make the most uninteresting topic seem fun.
I would direct you to the Vlogbrothers' video College Advice From an Expert. John's final piece of advice in that video is "Don't get too excited about "The Fountainhead."". Basically a lot of people get very excited about Ayn Rand upon first reading and then think otherwise a couple of years down the road.
But what about your Flight of the Conchords poster D: You can't get rid of it! It is too beautiful! Steve hear me out if you were to keep one big poster please save that one D:
Also, about blue waffles, I think the blue dye would be diluted so it wouldn't have the same color as the Tardis, so I think something like icing, or something on top to maintain the iconic blue color..
Awww ... this is a little sad, but you have so much more fun stuff to come in the near future which is awesome!
And I sadly won't be at VidCon. The timing wouldn't work out for me and I didn't know what my summer plans were when VidCon 2011 was announced, so ... yeah.
Tardis Waffles SHOULD be a thing. I may attempt them. I have tried to make a Tardis cake a couple times and never been successful. (I also tried to make a Serenity from Firefly cake once. That, too, was unsuccessful.)
I am so excited to creep on you at VidCon. You have no idea. I dream about it sometimes.
The first part of a 2-part movie version of Atlas Shrugged recently came out in theaters (possibly limited release). I imagine you wouldn't want to see it before reading the book, but just thought I'd mention it.
You can totally make blue waffles without them being sweet. You could just dye the batter blue with food colouring. I had green eggs and ham when I was in like first grade and all it was was green scrambled eggs.
Huh, I have The Fountainhead, have read the first 15 pages but for some reason stopped. Granted this was a few years ago and perhaps I should start over.
To be honest, I'm a bit surprised you like Ayn Rand. So many people hate her, I would have guessed you'd be one them. I'm a huge fan, I read Atlas Shrugged 3 years ago, and Fountainhead 2 years ago. I'd say Fountainhead is a better piece of literature but Atlas Shrugged a more...epic story, and it get's much more into philosophy. It's an absolutely grueling read, and I mean that in the best sense of the word. Reading it is like very difficult but very satisfying work.
I think to make a TARDIS waffle iron, you'd have to get a standard waffle iron made with TARDIS shaped inside-of-waffle-iron-thingys. I think it'd be expensive :(
I haven't completely finished Atlas Shrugged yet, but I'm very, very close to the end and have loved it. Dagny Taggart is...phenomenal. Easily one of my favorite literary characters.
Ending college sounds scary. I'm glad I have another year, because I have absolutely no clue what I would do.
Hope you have fun at VidCon, I won be going unfortunately due to a little thing called the atlantic ocean XD (and the fact that I have no money but I don like blaming myself :p)
Ending college is so weird! It's kind of like "now what?!" and plans are still up in the air. It's nice to know that other people feel like I do/did/am still working on. lol. I think it's harder than high school graduation because you have an expected path, now it's all kind of up to you.
I'm looking forward to vidcon videos so that I may live vicariously through you. :)
@TheAussieIrish Make yourself a hug bucket t shirt, then you're hugging with a purpose and you can have people sign your shirt and be in your hug bucket. lol.
You now got my head wrapped around the idea of making tardis warffles, I know how to make normal warffles so I might try when my exams are over. Could you make the sign over the door with chocolate? :)
All of Ayn Rand's books are on my list of books that I am never going to read. That is an actual list that I made. Besides The Great Gatsby, I don't remember what else was on it.
I wish I could go to Vidcon! Hopefully I'll make it next year!
TARDIS waffles definitely need to be a thing. And I agree--blue waffles would be a bit too weird. Instead of blueberries, I would go for ice cream. I've seen Cookie Monster themed ice cream before that's basically blue vanilla ice cream with cookie bits. A waffle with that would make me so happy.
I think the Tardis Waffles should be waffle-colored, but I think it would be fun if they were stacked upright (like a card house) to form a 3-D Tardis... or perhaps someone should make a bunch of tiny waffles and stack them vertically to form a Tardis-shaped waffle tower...
I get what you mean about graduating college. Everyone's always asking "what are you doing now?" And I'm like "Weelll..." I have plans, but hardly anything is definite right now and explaining that is difficult and awkward. Good luck with your future plans!
I'm going to VidCon as well! And as much as I'd like to say hi to you and strike up a conversation, I dunno. That seems strange on my part. Perhaps there should be a code phrase that we can BOND over. Or something.
I don't know, I just always feel awkward introducing myself to someone who *I* know, but who doesn't know anything about me. That's my half cent.
I've always been told the proper pronunciation is "eyen." Her novella "Anthem" is my favorite, maybe because it's so hilariously short compared to her other works I've read (100 pages is A LOT less than 1,000). Atlas Shrugged is really awesome too! As far as I can remember. I read it when I was like thirteen, so I think it's due for a reread. Just remember to have duct tape handy if you get the paperback, it falls apart fast. XD
Young man, my estimation of you just went up 1,000% just because you mentioned how you appreciated Ayn Rands' The Fountainhead... That's not to say I had a low opinion of you prior to that, but it's certainly higher now.
I agree about the waffles; coloring pastries has always weirded me out. They always just end up dingy and moldy-looking. Also I am *EXPLETIVE* (expletively?) sad that I can't afford VidCon. I mean I could, but then I wouldn't be able to do other stuff I like, such as eat.
I like the feel of this video, yeah, it was on a webcam, but it gives a nice vintage 1960s feel, which I like. TARDIS waffles sound good, but maybe with a blue syrup rather than colour it blue, or better yet, use blue and red syrups to make them look like they're travelling in time and space.
Also, have a great time with the camp, Vidcon and everything else in-between, I'm sure you'll have an awesome time!
I read the fountainhead a couple of years ago and truly loved it. I loved the characters and how they interacted and how Rand wrote about the characters. Though its been 4 years since I've read it, I would certainly like to hear your views on it!
Good luck with moving and camp and vidcon and your future and everything!! And TARDIS waffles, of course. How exactly would this work? Custom waffle iron?
I am looking forward to meeting you in person @ vidcon. Also, posters rolled up and put in shipping tubes travel very well and don't take up much space.
I remember where I was when I read the dialogue (in the beginning of The Fountainhead) between Roark and the professor. After that, I had to read the entire book.
