  • For the guy who said he would rather by reman than rebuild kit. I guess you trust somone in a third world country to rebuild for you more than you trust your rebuidling skills!

  • I don't have air at home so I left the caliper on the car, remove the bolts and applied the brakes to push the piston out. It works well if you don't have air.

  • @paulgriswold Great idea man!

  • Great vid man! I like the narration even though ur not on a bench :P anybody think its possible to extract the piston by just pushing it from the banjo bolt hole?

  • Thank you for taking the time to upload this video.

  • KEEP FINGERS CLEAR lol, great vid.

  • Nathan, I wish you would talk like your speaking with a friend. Don't think about this as being a youtube video, think about it as being a chat between friends. Friends don't talk like you do in these clips, and I'll bet you don't either. Remember that people who watch these have often watched hundreds of videos of you before. Cut out the repetitive phrases at the beginning and end.

The info is great, it's just the strange presentation that's off.

    Dave

  • My Caliper is 314 bucks. Rebuild kit 5 bucks. Rebuild is the way to go.

  • Two points. First, in most cases you don't need to worry about removing the dust bellows before extracting the piston, if you force it out with compressed air it will come out with the piston. Second, and far more important: KEEP YOUR FINGERS CLEAR OF THE PISTON AND OUTSIDE OF THE CALIPER WHEN APPLYING COMPRESSED AIR. The piston can come out with enough force to shred fingernails and even sever fingers.

  • Anyone know how to remove the piston from the brake caliper if you don't have an air compressor?

  • Remove the caliper bolts and then remove the outer brake pad and reinstall the caliper, loosely tightening the caliper bolts. Then press the brake pedal a couple of times and that will extend the piston. Then remove the caliper bolts and pull the caliper and there should be enough of it out that you can pull it out. If it's rusted in the bore that won't do it, but if it's rusted in, you need another caliper anyway.

  • @valikkvampire wanna know samething..

  • why would you waste money on a new caliper if a 15.00 rebuild kit fixes it. that shows the difference between the men and the boys when you can have a safe braking system without breaking the bank

  • "And that is the proper service procedure" x1000000

  • Who rebuilds an alternator, starter,Master cylinder and axles? None since it a waste of time!Iincludes brake calipers too and takes less time replacing the caliper which takes about a minute over taking the caliper off and taking apart including cleaning it up.Than have to put it pack together and reinstall it also bleeding the brakes.

  • @wafrederick The rear brake caliper on my VW jetta from a dealer costs $360, and a new boot costs $30. It took me one hour to replace the boot. I think it was worth it, for me. Of course if you can get devices for cost or rebuilt, the math may work out differently.

  • Buy a reman instead, not worth the time to rebuild it.Easier way is go to the parts store bring the old one for a core and get a reman

  • why on my 1980 corvette the caliper is 65.00 for a cheap one and a rebuild kit is only $15.00 So you do the math. It only takes maybe 1 hr to do and I save $50.00
