So cute. By the way, the head tilt thing is its attempt to trinangulate where the sound is coming from. My in-laws had a German Shepard that used to do the same thing, only it wouldn't howl back at the sound. It would just look at us nervously.

Dogs react to the howling because it is a way of canine communication.  The reason why wolves howl is because they communicate long distances. Barks are for short distance communication. Wolves CAN bark, but they rarely do because wolves are generally more spaced out in the wild, hence they howl more. The dog is responding to the howl.

Thought someone had put my dog (Salem) on here when I saw it. He looks and sounds exactly the same as mine.He is a young looking 13 yr old but going off his legs now, so the vet had to put him on steroids. Has given him a new lease of life.
