thank you. please keep watching them and look for me on facebook too.

  • Hi Judy thank for the instruction on the bamboo, stiches do you have a baby blanket pattern in the bamboo stich? if you can you email to me please.

  • @marciabar7

I did make a video of a baby blanket in the bamboo stitch with a picot edge. Depending on the yarn you use, cast on the number of stitches you want. Make sure to do 4 or 6 sts. of seed or garter stitch on the edges to stop the curling.

You can't go wrong with this stitch. Thanks for writing. Look for me on facebook.

  • I got better instructions from dropdesign and she doesn't talk . You didn't say which stitch ? The 1st , 2nd , 3rd , 4th ? Which one ? Because you never said that . Its not like we can see it upclose .

  • Help, please! I thought this stitch was beautiful, so I am currently making a scarf (double yarn - 2 colors) in bamboo. I have just noticed that about 22 rows ago, I missed passing the yarn over with the slipped stitch as the second to last step in my row (I am trying a "chain edge"). Is there any way to fix this or is perfection a necessity with the bamboo stitch? I can't believe I didn't notice this sooner!!!

Thank you for your wonderful videos! I watch you here and follow you on fb.

  • @ssmur1

Well, how does it look to you? Can you live with it? If not you have to rip it out.

Glad you like the videos. Hope you can salvage your scarf.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy

Thanks so much for your response!

I was hoping you'd tell me there's a video for "rescuing forgotten passed yarn over stitches in the bamboo stitch" or something. Haha! One can dream!

Besides the obvious, the purl side also looks a bit "off" where I missed this step, so I think I will rip it out. My mistake is about 1/3 of the way back in the scarf, salvageable just timely. I am using red and black yarns together and sometimes mistakes are glaring, sometimes not!

  • @ssmur1

You did the right thing. It's so hard to rip out after so much time has gone into it, but in the end it's the best way to go.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy

I posted a photo of the finished scarf for you to see on your facebook page yesterday.

  • I just started a scarf using the bamboo stitch. It's so easy and beautiful! I didn't like the way my selvage looked so I add two knit sts to the beginning and end of each row and ended up with an even number, but my scarf is not exactly rolling, but more like cupping. Why would that be--what did I do wrong? Is there a way to fix this? Will I have to block it (gee, I hope not!)? Thanks so much for everything you have taught me. Alas, I may not have been the best student this time?

  • @LRF965

Unfortunately the bamboo stitch does roll or cup. I should tell everyone to add about 6 stitches in garter or seed on the sides to prevent this. Thanks for calling it to my attention.

  • Do you still start off with an uneven number of stitches because you slip the first stitch, or does it not make a difference?

  • @xxJayleenxx

I'm slipping the first stitch as if it were the first knit stitch, not adding another stitch.

  • Oh this stitch is so pretty! You've inspired me to knit some Christmas presents this year :D I'm so excited to get started!

  • @Wingsoftheheart

what did you end up making? I love this stitch too. Please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • @hotdog1997

just make sure you have the right amount of stitches so your pattern will be correct.

  • thanks!! cool stitch! :)

  • Thanks! ♥

  • Is there a certain amount of stitches you have to have on the needle? If so, do you have to decrease and increase by that same amount every time you want to add or subtract?

  • She said that it needs to be an odd number. I think other than that it doesn't matter.

  • Judy, thank you so much for your EXCELLENT videos! They are always clear and easy to understand- and thanks to you, my once rusty knitting skills are coming back again. :-) This bamboo stitch looks like a good one to know about- am going to use in a shawl I'm working on now.

  • gracias por enseñarnos. Que manos maravillosas. Dios le bendiga.

  • how do I count rows? It is more confusing that counting rows in crochet. Can you help me with counting garter stich and stoquinete stich?

    Thank you, you are best.

  • I will try to do a video on how to count rows. Basically you just lay the work flat, take a needle and put it in each stitch as you go up the work. I don't mean sew it in. Use the needle as a pointer and count. they do sell row counters in stores too.

Glad you like my videos. Please keep watching for new ones. I try to put a new one up at least once a week.

  • Thanks for your response.

  • Oh dear, I think I answered you twice.

  • I am a new Knitter and I adore you!!! you make it seem so simple. I can't wait to try it. I have successfully completed a hat & scarf. Now I need a baby blanket and I think this stich will really look nice, YOU ARE THE BEST!!

  • Thank you for your nice comment(s). Keep at it and let me know how it works out.

  • I'm still no good at reading the abbreviations for knitting, so this helped me immensly in learning how to do the bamboo stitch! Thank you so much!

  • Glad I could help. Keep watching for more new videos. I put a new one up yesterday. Thanks for your nice comment.

  • Cool! If you want to do that in the round, would you still have to purl or would you just continue with the first step? I'm still learning and you have helped TONS.

  • I haven't tried doing Bambo in the round, but when I do I'll let you know. Keep watching for more new videos. I put a new one on yesterday.

  • Thanks so much for your videos. Love being able to try out all those new (to me) stitches.I am having trouble keeping my scarves from curling. I am currently working a stockinette stitch that is curling from both sides. Anhy ideas on why that's happening and how to stop it?

  • Thanks for your comment. There is no way to keep a stockinette stitch scarf from curling. Next time try one of the stitches that look the same on both sides or ribbing. Refer to my videos for suggestions.

    Happy knitting.

  • Ah, the age old problem. There is nothing you can do to keep a stockinette stitch from curling. The best thing (next time) is to do another stitch such as garter, seed or ribbing. Look through my videos for stitches. Meanwhile, let your stockinette stitch scarf curl and wear it proudly knowing that you made it!

  • Thanks for your easy to follow instructions. I am a beginner and I love your videos. Do you have any videos on how to pick up dropped stitches? I need tips on how to fix common mistakes.

  • Thanks for your comment. I will add it to my "to do list" which keeps getting longer even though I try to put up a new video every week. I put one up yesterday, but keep looking for yours.

  • why do you slip the first stitch? do you do that every row? do you do that in every project?

  • I slip the first stitch on every row, both K and P because it makes for a cleaner salvage edge with no bumps. Please keep watching for more videos. I put a new one up yesterday.

  • Wicked :D I'm going to try that on a scarF!

  • Did you try it? How did the scarf turn out?

  • I did a test one and it turned out nice, haven't gotten around to doing a full one yet.

  • wow, thanks for posting this!

I'm excited now...I shall try to knit this tomorrow. :)

But I have to do homework for now...

Once again, thank you for sharing your wonderful knowledge of knitting!

  • Thanks for writing. Have you tried it yet? How old are you? Keep watching for new videos. I put one up yesterday.
