This song is very soothing and the muppet boy is very handsome and adorable. It's really sweet to see him and Elmo sitting together as good friends, surrounded by nature.
Sesame Street being agead of its time, as usual. What a sweet video. What a good message. It's too bad that the shows creativity was lost with the loss of Jim Henson. It's all prepackaged and formatted now. They should have just stopped production and run re=runs from the earlest days forward.
Do you know what makes me cry the most? Joe Raposo- the writer behind such beauties as "Everybody Sleeps" "Peanut Butter" "Somebody Come and Play" and so many more...he wrote this just before he died, as his own personal farewell message to the world.
Rest in Peace, Mr Raposo. Your music and words were the herald of our childhood years.
....T_T..,i miss d 80's and early 90's it wuz a much more simpler time. I tear up every time i see this vid...this song had a very deep message if u really listen 2 it..peace
Did Joe Raposo write this as his last song? I read in my Peanut Butter video that this was the last song he ever wrote, he wrote it when he was dying of cancer as a farewell and to ask the children to make the planet a brighter place after he was gone. That broke my heart, but then I read that someone else put that he didn't write it, Jeff Moss did. Which story is true? Either way this video is good for a sobfest! :,)
I just teared up watching this. I read on my Peanut Butter video that this was the last song Joe Raposo wrote, in 1989, before he died. Was this song put on Sesame Street in '89 or not until the 90s? Either way it is a touching video that teaches kids the value of ecology. I don't even mind its Biblical look; I'm an Earth-based Jew/Pagan who wants to blow a shofar when the Earth is finally saved and humans stop all animal abuse! :,)
Oh, the lyrics are "sitting around together on a planet of the sun"! When I was little, I understood the lyrics as "sitting around together on a planet called the sun"! That thoroughly confused me when I was a kid. But now I see that I misunderstood the lyrics.
Oops. I see that I made a spelling error in my original post. I meant to say that the real lyrics of the song are "spinning around together on a planet of the sun". Anyway, I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only one who misunderstood the lyrics when I was little. I guess that kids have a harder time parsing songs.
I read on Muppet Wiki Jill Scott did a later version of this. Chicago and the frog were still part of the chorus of animals, but I also saw a blue jay and some animals used from The Animal Show.
Would like to see that, though to see how it's different.
That's Chicago the Vegetarian lion. Also, I believe they had a lion and lamb together to symbolize that in Heaven, the lion will lie down with the lamb.
watching this takes me back to the good old days of being a kid and watching sesame street. I also thought when i was little that they said the planet called the sun.
I am 21 and I remember watching this clip. It brings back alot of memories for me. I have a 3 almost 4 yr old cousin and they always want me to watch sesame street with her. I don't like to because to me its just not as good.
I saw this when I was like 6 years old, it's such a beautiful song. When I got to 4th grade I stopped watching SS because it was basically "not cool" to watch it anymore, but seeing this again almost made me cry. You're really never too old for classic Sesame Street.
Yeah, it wasn't really until about 1996 that he truly started becoming the focus of the show. (Conveniently enough, right after the huge Tickle Me Elmo sales... Coincidence? I think not.) I absolutely love this song and don't see really see anything that should have been different, but could anyone else imagine Grover there in place of Elmo? Just a weird thought I've sometimes had...
I know it would have ruined the pleasant mood, but I always wished the martian muppets would beam down at the end of the song and go "yip-yip-yip-yip... earthlings... uh-huh, uh-huh!"
This is and was my favorite kids' song of all time. Thanks for posting it. And don't bother with the updated version, because they should be shot for remaking something like this.
COOL I used to have this video too!!!!! Too bad that I got rid of it a few years ago. But I got the dvd this winter. Heart Warming song. I LUV the 90s. Boy I miss the old Elmo. snif
Yeah! Sesame Street got REAL music back then. Now on Sesame Street or lets say Elmo's World Street memories could be annoying and the music is MORE annoying like Elmo. Boy I feel bad for the kids that were born after 97.
(snif) Yeah NOW Sesame Street is in DANGER with Elmo's Street, but Elmo is NOT the only one, NOW there is Cookie Monster's diet that made me MAD, and a new Hooper's Store came the SAME year just like Elmo's World, and Elmo made the GOOD chracters annoying. Yeah both of the oringnal, and remake of Jeff Mosses 'Rubber Duckie" are GREAT.
Hey, I admit I'm a "old school" S.S. fan who only likes the stuff from 1969 to about 1986. That is what I remember and that is what I collected and posted. However, this is a "new" song I actually got to like. Thanks for posting.
