How long did it take you to get coordinated enough to time the notes right?

Um..well the real techinical stuff didn't really come into the picture of me playing till about..3 years ago. I started to discover buckethead, Shawn lane, paul gilbert..ect..you know very skilled fast playing but also melodic. Tried out many differn't techniques, but overall..after doing it a BILLION times, by either sitting and just throwing them in randomly and you eventually get better and you know where the frets are without looking completely and it just gets faster and better.
