ok let me clear this who bass thing.its not a dick knight,eb2d,rivoli.it is a eccleshall 335,not like peter hooks though.not all of them look like that ive seen few that arent like hooks, most are though.they are all custom ordered to the liking of the buyer.i admit this look way differnt then the rest but thats what simon asked for.
@iantocool - Yes, and I heard that as part of Simon's custom order, he asked Chris Eccleshall to write "Schecter" on the headstock, and naturally, he obliged (gotta keep the customers happy). Then Simon got him to build another identical one for this guy:
tinyurl DOT com/3uc9olq
tinyurl DOT com/3uj5ykf
tinyurl DOT com/3r5opho
tinyurl DOT com/4478p85
Apparently, Eccleshall now specializes in basses that say "Schecter" on them (and Simon covers his legal fees).
@ceruleansand - Yes, the preamp in an Eccleshall can be bypassed completely, and it can also be run mono or stereo. The myth was originaly perpetuated on Chris Eccleshall's website when he posted that Simon uses one the bass page.
I tired of arguing this years ago, so here's your answer. If you truly believe it to be the Eccleshall, then the Eccleshall it shall be; if you desire the Dick Knight, then it is the Dick Knight. If anyone at this point says Schecter (and can spot the difference in hewadstaock and logo shapes in the video), the stick with Schecter. I know my choice (qnd ceruleansand's) and I'm sticking with it.
Actually, the bass used in Trilogy was custom made by luthier Dick Knight, not by Eccleshall. He had two of them made around the Wish era, and talked about them in an article at the time. I think it was in a sidebar in the September 1992 edition of Guitar Player. You can see him play both a black one and a white one in the "Show" video. The white one was tuned DADG for songs like Open and Friday I'm in Love.
Eccleshalls are all made with an EMG humbucker approx. 1/2 inch from the neck and a P ouckup near the bridge, passive electronics plus a 3 band active EQ (based on a Yamaha BB1200, for the record), and stereo outs. The bass in this video was acquired after the big Schecter deal The Cure had and it was 1 of 2 hollowbodies built. Look carefully at the headstock and pickups, this is his Custom Schecter.
If you still disagree, then you're right...case closed.
Correct, though "passive electronics plus a 3 band active EQ" is a bit of an oxymoron; if the EQ is active then the electronics as a whole would be considered active, unless they can be switched out of the circuit as on a Fender Jaguar Bass.
I promise it is a Schecter. Eccleshalls are always made with a P pickup in the middle position and a Humbucker by the neck. For further proof, there's two pics of Blasko with its "twin" at symbolic clothing's website
@vegas532 No way... That's not a Schecter. I wrote to the luthier of that bass (Mr. Eccleshall), he bulit this bass for Hook (Joy Division)...sorry, you're wrong. Bass is based on Yamaha electronics and bodystyle of Gibson EB2....look at his website!
Actually vegas532 is right and you're half-right. Chris Eccleshall does make 335-style basses with active Yamaha electronics, most notably for Peter Hook. But that is not this bass. This bass is a Schecter--though it's a difficult to make out, it even says so on the headstock.
Other giveaways: Schecter headstock shape and Schecter-style EMG pickups (see Damien model to compare). This also has a smaller body than Peter Hook's, with different curves.
While it is true that Eccleshall namechecks Simon Gallup and has a screencap from these sessions on his website, it is clearly not the same bass as what Hooky is playing (also on the site). Maybe his webmaster screwed up?
Simon does, however have a couple 335-style basses by luthier Dick Knight, plus a modified Gibson EB-2 and an Epiphone Jack Casady.
@SmallParticleWaves for some reason you seem to think that only Eccleshall makes EB2 style basses? The main one that Simon played during the Wish tour was made by Dick Knight, for crying out loud. How do you know it is not a custom Schecter?
@Daveyraveygravey This was a few years ago when the Cure was headlining the Coachella festival. They did a couple videos for Yahoo to promote the concert.

Simon Gallup is the chuck norris of bass, because he never, ever plays a wrong note.
Neither in the future, nor in the past .

That's actually a one off custom Schecter. Two were made; the other one belngs to Blasko, of all people.
Not a commentary of Blasko's bass playing, I've just never known him to be a big hollowbody guy.

The instruments sound superb! Is that Jason on the drums? I would have said this was quite recent but can't tell for sure.
