I love Populous for the SNES, its a brilliant game and I understood it when I was maybe 9 the first time I played it.. Its not that hard to figure it out with trial and error. Mine was a used game from Funco Land, so I had no manual to help me figure the game out.
The houses have to be made into castles by flattening the land, the object of the game is to concor the enemy, and gain your population... I understood it very well and still do today. one fo the best Super Nintendo games if you know what your doing in it, and the goal to achieve.
when Children's Palace toy stores went belly up, they were selling all their SNES games at a HUGE mark down. if i remember correctly they were selling for around 10 and 15 dollars. and this was right in the beginning of the SNES. i was gobbling games up as fast as i could save up money. i bought Populous because of the cover. i was too young to play it correctly.

You sound like one guy I saw who didn't know how to play Lemmings. This game is pretty simple. People can only build on flat land, the more flat land there is the bigger there settlements can be. The bar on the top indicates what spells you can afford to cast.

I loved this game when I was a kid! The music was so weird but I loved it. I really had no idea what to do either. I just flattened the land and tried to make as many castles as I could. If I got bored I would enter cheats to skip levels. Good fun.
