  • Coked up, yes, skeletel, yes....but still beautiful

  • Forever ♥

  • Besides having such rich and fascinating music, cultural concepts, etc. this period of Bowie is so great because of its transitory and transitionary nature. It was Ziggy morphing into Halloween Jack; morphing into plastic soul hipster; morphing into The Thin White Duke - all within the veritable blink of an eye. It's hard to pin down the apex of the style because it never held still (was it '74 or '75? Philly Dogs or Plastic Soul Reveiw?).

  • WOW I love this song

  • haven't heard this in sooo long

  • Great Video - I like this song - he was going into the blak music - like no white man did it before - I think - but was a dangerous thing..!

  • what! dick cavett on DVD.. fantastic ;) thx for the info.. i don`t think either that bowie does not like his soul.. and it sounds fantastic. actually, he (as a white boy) did quite well with young americans. no plastic, just bowie`s language, i think.

  • potentially the best song of all of his. big statement i kno, but just so much passion in this, its hard to overlook it.

  • que c est bon apres une dure journee de labeur!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree with eclipse1501. While David may have been influenced at times by Brel or Ferry or Dylan or Eno or Iggy or Reed or whomever he was inspired by at the time, I think his use of the word 'plastic' was his essential modesty rather than an accurate assessment of the music. His ability to write (and sing) soul, reggae, glam, and various rock hybrids with equal ability speaks to the level of his talent. Not to mention he moonwalked ten years before MJ...lol :)

  • Stooooooooned!!!!! But still the greatest entertainer ever!!

  • this is fantastic.. need more of this.. great sound and boy is he drugged and smoked up.. his vocals sound amazing.

  • No David Sanborn on sax in the beginning - that is the big difference in this version. Slower - what great background vocals.

  • Is this available on cd? Download?

  • Great pics once again, where did you get these from?? I love this song, Young Americans is one of my fave albums.

  • thanks....only knew the studio version til now...melancholic bowie.....

  • there's also another version of this song on YouTube that he sings live with Cher

  • Thank u for for the great information. I have been compulsively watching that video over and over. I am not a fan of Cher, but watching 2 icons sing this duet, eases the pain of it being Cher, lol.

  • This version is so very beautiful.

  • Simply, a classic.

  • Bowie allways followed his instinct,at the time of this song , he was very influenced by the soul of the philly sound.Looks like he defenitely appropriate that to himself. He dedicated this song to Ava Cherry.Thank you for this unknown cut, really...

  • Bowie is so fantastically talented, and this was such an interesting period for him. However, I really just think this doesn't suit Bowie so much as it was something he was "trying on." He himself referred to his soul music as 'plastic' and I can see what he means.

  • Well Kara I hear you but I think Bowie used the word "plastic" in a self effacing sense, he also used this same word years earlier describing a young Ziggy Stardust as a "plastic rocker" if you remember. Personally its one of my favourite periods and I thinks it's no coincidence they recently released the Dick Cavett '74 show on official DVD as so many people love it and have bootlegged it do death over the years.

  • Exactly. His best and coolest (and coolest looking) period ('74, '75, '76).

  • @KaraBear567 Plastic capable of being molded or modeled

  • Awesome. I have to get these bootlegs. David Sanborn is great on sax as usual. His best period of music (DD, David Live, Young Americans, Stage).

  • I'm really crying too! :,)

  • oh this song is soooo beautifull im crying.

  • You can email me at Kamikaziggy website...Iam sure i have that on CDR

  • Yeah this was a great time for bowie, check out his song "its gonna be me" also from this era.so f######## soulful. His voice was at its best at this time.

  • This song is charged with love and all sorts of emotions! thanks for posting this.

  • WHAT AN ERA!!! From 1970 to 1980, who else made such an impression in so many ways?

    Brilliant

  • Thanks for this video Eclipse. I love the old vintage pictures!

  • I like to listen to Young Americans LP, and especially this song in particular, real late at night. Very relaxing.

  • im in love with this! i always enjoy when people uplaod things from thier bootlegs ;)

  • Very enjoyable.

  • Great photos by the way!!!!

  • David Robert Haywood Jones I'm only a thin white woman was thursday's child. But I know there's something in the wind. Let me fly away with you. Waiting so long, I've been waiting so long. Come to my waiting arms. Give me more than one caress, satisfy this hungriness. Share my life. Falling in love with me. How I wish you would. With your kiss my life begins.
  • You took the words right out of my mouth. ;)

  • The Young Americans album is one of my favs. This is beautiful. First time I've heard it live. Thanks.

  • I Love You David Bowie, You Are the most sexiest and when I hear your voice. . . I canT begin to describe what I feel Inside.

  • I absolutely love this song! It's GREAT! Bowie will always be a star! the prettiest star then! XD

  • The amount of lle this guy must have been doing to scrap a tour and rebrand it full stop must have been historical. I'd love to here a live version of "fascination."

By the way, this version of the song sounds way more Philly than the Young Americans version, which is still awesome.

  • I love Bowies 'plastic soul'. Young Americans he album from where this song eminates from was quite revolutrionary. A white 'faggot' selling hi own universion of soul to millions of black & white Americans
