Too bad history is only written by the winners..... For those that have only heard but didn't really witness WCW in their glory days, WCW was beating the shit out of WWF/E. As someone posted before me, this was "Attitude" before WWF/E knew what it was. WCW suffered from letting Vince Russo have creative control but they didn't deserve the ultimate of being bought out by McMahon and subsequently have their entire roster turned into LOSERS havin made champions prove themselves all over again....
You know the real bad thing about this? The nWo were alright with Hogan, Hall, Nash, Savage and DiBiase, the WWF big names only. When they added people like Bagwell, Scott Steiner and Stevie Ray is when everything started to go downhill.
Holy shit, now that is an fucking intro to a PPV, I was a big fan of the nWo and even today this intro puts most of WWE's PPV production levels to shame.
This is how you get people hype for your event, WCW in 1997 is the best year of pro wrestling, great production levels, the nWo was white hot, great cruiseweights, the rise of Jericho, Goldberg debut, Hogan/Sting hype, and so much more, their wont ever be a year like this again, I fucking miss WCW, but was glad to see such an amazing year.
Read about this in the Death of WCW book and of course the intro was awesome and WCW being the first company to do something cutting edge for their PPVs in order for the fans to get hyped up.
too bad there's no real competition in wrestling anymore. WCW being around and competing with WWE brought out the best in both companies.
I mean TNA's around but they still have a lot to work on before they can actually compete with WWE. I an a TNA fan but they still have A LOT to work on before they are a real threat to WWE
WCW was a real threat to WWE
too bad the main thing that made them also broke them in the end
@lordieli No, after this promo they added that voice clip to the theme. At the time they had no voice overs on the theme. Those debuted during this event.
"they are not at risk of being harmed" Look up the name Darren Drozdov and read about him on wikipedia or at least somewhere. Do the same for Owen Hart. THEN come back and say that they're not at risk.
This looks like a precursor to what Bischoff was wanting to make the nWo storyline. Making it a seperate brand. Don't know why it never happened. Maybe it could've helped in saving the company if it had. Guess we'll never know. : (
Well, that was part of it, but not the only thing. There are reasons that the PPV got those low buy-rates. I watched all of WCW back then, and I don't remember this, except for the videos I've seen online.
no u were not, ur just like those drug people at woodstock 200,000 were there yet 1 million claimed to be there same thing with this prove it ur just a typical homo fat out of shape jackass newb bitch u saw it on tv
People don't realize how much of a chance Bischoff was taking running a NWO promoted PPV. While the PPV sucked, I still love the concept of it. The part where Bischoff was addressing the masses like some kind of cult leader was awesome.
DX didn't run their own PPV, it was under the guise of a WWF In Your House show. Not even closely related.
this ppv did not suck its legendary and thats why its still revered today lol...this was a great idea and concept and thats why vince and the wwe tried to rip it off when they had dx....this pay preview sold out and the matches were great would not sya this sucked u suck
I still maintain to this day that the layout of the entrance area at this PPV was very influential on the WWF changing Raws entrance way to the huge titan tron, which was introduced literally months later.
I bet at this point WWE and the McMahon Family were pulling their hair out. I mean look at this footage it's eleven years old and it still looks modern.
WCW's production values were always superior and unfortunately still is in a lot of cases lol even though its old as hell and WWE and TNA should be caught up by now. they just dont got the resources Turner had.
Then there was the farcical Saturday nights where you'd wait all week for Nitro on TNT and then they'd announce that due to "satellite problems" they wouldn't be showing it. Pricks.
PPV was bad but the intro was good

DX was lame compared to this. The concept of DX originated from Shawn Michaels experiences at the Blue Oyster Bar.

@PuertoRicanfjr12
I just read that book too, I liked how he referred to the "Miss NwO" competition as
"Imagine your mom and all her friends riding around on motorcycles screaming about how the want to grope Kevin Nash"
hahaha
None the less it would have been interesting to see, had the whole idea of NwO getting its own PPVs and TV time would have caught on.

Or realize it's scripted entertainment and do nothing at all, because they are not at risk of being harmed.
