My wife did sound for them for part of the "Gordon" tour. One of her favorite memories was the reaction of Rochester, NY to a bunch of, then, overweight guys rocking out to "Fight the Power". When all out confusion turns to bliss it makes for a powerful dive bar experience. May have to go dig up the yellow cassette, although I am loath to play it in case my tape deck eats it.

The harder one to find/replace would be Buck Naked, which I'm still waiting for someone online to make an upgraded transfer of (sans excessive noise reduction). Collectors can be stingy, though....
This video is a derivative work or art. The lyrics are just great. One of the best literal videos that I have seen. This one and Billie Jean video are classics of the genre.
@nintendork64 It was difficult to get a version without any vocals. Their videos DVD has a Rom feature that lets you record your own vocals (instead of Steve's) onto this song. The problem is that it only plays the instrumental for you one line at a time. I had to record the instrumental bit by bit, (with a separate program) then piece it together. If that sounds complicated and confusing, I guarantee you that it was actually MORE complicated and MORE confusing than what I just described! :-)
@DistortIncorporated All the karaoke versions I found had backing vocals, which would have seriously clashed with what I was singing. Also, being able to reconstruct BNL's actual backing track not only ensured that I could sync it up to the original video, but also provided me with a nice BNL audio rarity for my collection. :)
@dascottjr Odd. There are karaoke tracks of this out there; a friend of mine sings it (I'm not up to it :-). This is probably the best demonstration yet that your songwriting job is actually *harder* than that of the original writers -- they only wanted to make their own point... you have to make that of the video director, without the luxury of composing the music yourself. Nice work.

I agree. The lyrics are fantastic. Except for that one little section. Slant rhyme, whatever. Call it Picasso rhyme if you will, it doesn't rhyme, and therefore, I don't like it.
You certainly have a right to your opinion, even though I think you're expecting WAY too much from parody videos.
For me, it's brilliant all the way. Would've liked to have some commentary during the slo-mo running shot, a la "Dance Sequence" in "Battlefield", but I'm not going to let it ruin the video for me.

this parody makes me realize how great and like the original even more, NOT because this is bad. But because the music is so good, this is the best dascottjr work. Only a HS marching band can make this song sound bad.

@Lightstrikers: I like the original, too. The backing, btw, is actual BNL. It took me a lot of effort to retrieve the backing track from the Barelaked Nadies [sic] DVD, but it was worth it. It's one of my personal fave creations next to Meat Loaf. Thank you for enjoying!

@chimaerandi: I posted this the same day as my Pat Benatar one, so maybe that hurt it. I wish it would get more views, too. :,-( Although, at least one of the members has seen and liked it, so that alone made this video worth it. :-) If you still think it needs more hits, I'd suggest sharing with your friends, which is always a good place to start. :-D
