  • This works with Htc Hero GSM? If i use the Htc Hero GSM Cyanogen mod?? Or are there more things i should do different?

  • @VolledigHD yup! z4root will work on the gsm version. on my CyanogenMod video, I have links to where you can download the GSM version of CM for your phone!

  • what if theres not a free version of ROM manager? will ROM Toolbox work? or OI File Manager? or Rom Manager Janitor? idk what to do now! please help!!

  • @wwjoshdew will this root z4root work even though htc hero has current up to date spftware from sprint?

  • watch the Videos, follow the directions/links..(maybe a few times) and Voila

if a Truckdriver can do. well I guess anyone can. Thanks Josh

  • @patrickohara1 you're very welcome

  • when the timer on the stove went off at 9min, hit home..superuser installed, 30% of titanium back up installed....you rock Josh!, cant i tether it ?

  • @patrickohara1 YUP! Open up your browser, google "wifi tether" and click the little downloads link! (it will be the FIRST thing you see!) Then download the NEWEST tether (which is pre7, or something like that. The one at the VERY top!) And then install it. Choose the HERO CDMA profile, and press START tethering!

  • my phone shut off and it wiped all my data, good thing i backed my phone up on Lookout!!!

  • @wkbordb sadly lookout won't get you your app DATA back though. only titanium backup will. and that requires root

  • Will I be able to move apps to sd card? Can I download apps2sd and not have to flash anything else!? Thanks.

  • @mikeinstlouis YES, you will be able to do that! and it's essential on a phone with such little memory! lol

  • Mine keeps saying could not open as apk file?

  • Jesus, honestly, can some one please give me an honest answer, is it worth doing? rooting, cyanogen or whatever?

  • @TheAngelsDecay YES! You will feel like you have a SOMEWHAT useful phone!

  • Josh, can you help my lovie? =] my hero is stuck on safe mode. ive tried pressing volume dwn & power buttons. cant hboot. gr!

  • could you use Universal Androot instead of z4root?

  • @basejesus i tried that and it seemed like it worked, but nothing would say there was root. I would just get a "sorry, but root could not be detected". so I went back to z4root since it's so easy, but takes forever

  • i've searched around. . . z4root won't install on my hero. it doesn't show up with the icon like yours when i find it in my app list. any ideas?

  • @bunsaflappin you have to download it and then put it on your sdcard.

  • @wwjoshdew i just found out this doesn't work on 1.5? kind of a bummer. i don't have full access to the laptop i'm using and my personal laptop is crapped out. can i root my phone from my Acer Iconia tablet?

  • @bunsaflappin go to about phone and check for updates. You really shouldn't be using 1.5 anymore. that's serious Crap dude!

  • Does anybody knows how to get a And-Market on Cynanogen Mod?

  • @postmaster2211 I don't even know what "And-Market" is and google brought up nothing. But if it's an alternative market, you would just put the apk on the sdcard and install it with something like Astro file manager. If you are TRYING to say you don't have the "Android Market" on your phone,, that's because you need the google addons update.zip that was right under the other link you should of downloaded.

  • LOLOLOOLOLTOFDSOJFIEBDFSEIJBS:EIFBes

    OMFFFFFG

I WAS TRYING TO ROOT IT AND I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT CLICKING A HOME BUTTTON.

    LOVU U !!!

  • @postmaster2211 yeah, every time I have done this I have had to click the home button! #LOL

  • Instead of using the ASTRO file manager, you can go to 4shared on the phone, search for "z4root.apk", download it then follow the steps in the video

  • @ALaNAI1 yeah, that would work to.

  • hey thanks a ton! I was reading online help things and they weren't very helpful but this was EXTREMELY helpful. Showing the screen images was the best because I get impatient but I knew what to look for!

  • @qnadqs awesome! Very glad it helped you!

  • @CptWigglesVideos sorry dude. i put the app on the sdcard, and install it using Astro File Manager

  • @CptWigglesVideos it has worked fine every time. 1.3.0

  • You can get Windows 7 for free now!

    downloadblinks . c__o__m

  • @mariceldiazbesi10 nah, no thanks

  • Wow this actually worked! Thx!

  • @TheVidGameMaster Your very welcome!

  • Man! I remember this was my first Sprint phone! Then moved on to Blackberrys, Then Got the Evo! It's crazy to see how many different phones I have had over the last year or so!

  • @ChoonkyMoonky haha. yeah. my wife HAD the Rumor Touch and traded it for a Pre. then she traded the pre for a rumour touch. then she traded the touch for the Hero.... Ahhhhh Craigslist... lol. SHE is really wanting an Evo!

  • @wwjoshdew Got to love craigslist! Yeah only reason I got rid of my Evo is because it would freeze up on me a lot!

  • @ChoonkyMoonky with Cyanogen 7.0.2? AND 7.1 is coming! She really wants the Shift because of the keyboard, BUT she also likes the Evo.

  • You can install Z4Root with HTC Sync too.

  • @Skyguy1193 cool. thanks

  • your hero is twice as fast as mine :(

  • @TheJaakeee sorry

  • THIS SHIT IS HALITOSES HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SHIT DONT WORKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • @Laurent2880 are you making fun of me?

  • U LOOK LIKE HAMMERED SHIT (BLACK OPS IN THE BACK ROUND)

  • @fidrom22 yup! I play Black Ops and Reach! I just downloaded the new map pack yesterday and played some today! Couldn't sleep.

  • @wwjoshdew FYI this dont work for me :(

  • @fidrom22 ok, sorry. Google unrevoked. that's another way to do it.

  • I cant find z4root in the astro file manager respond asap

  • @Hockeydude0605 you need to download the apk and put it on your sdcard.

  • @wwjoshdew How?

  • @Hockeydude0605 yeah, i just checked to make sure, the links STILL work man! just click the 1st or 2nd link and download the apk. You go right below the video and you click "show more"

  • @wwjoshdew i clicked the link . Im on my laptop . but how do u download the apk

  • @Hockeydude0605 you click the download button. there are two links where you can download it from. I posted my fileserve link as the 2nd one. I have a premium account, but with a free account, you just click free and wait about a minute. then download it to your desktop (anywhere really). then mount your phone to and transfer it. if your the 2nd person to tell me you don't know how to mount your sdcard, please don't attempt rooting or do a little research before going any further.

  • When i hit astro file manager and i scroll down there is no z4root? Please respond asap

  • @Hockeydude0605 you have to put the apk on your sdcard.

  • I AM NOT ABLE TO DOWNLOAD FORM THE LIKE THAT U R GIVING. ALSO I KEEP GETTING THE MESSAGE FAILED NO FU GOO. CAN U PLEASE HELP ME?

  • @TheMarthacarter Not really. Sorry. I am not a dev. your best bet would be to visit the Cyanogen forums, create an account, and submit an issue for a dev.

  • @TheMarthacarter OH! And I provide links to actual threads, so that you do NOT have to download from my link, if you don't want to!

  • I'm having the same problem too, it worked. But now it is extremely slow. :(

  • @TechnoFishFilms your phone is running really slow? My wife's phone is really slow to, but that's because she has a crap load of stuff on her phone. and the more apps you install, the harder your phone has to work... I am sorry. The Hero is just showing it's age. I mean, it was the 1st generation Android phone for the sprint. Like the G1 on T-Mobile...

  • @wwjoshdew it's working fine now, I just restarted the phone and everything is good. Thank's for your help and quick response though.

  • @TechnoFishFilms that's good to hear and you are very welcome!

  • thanks a lot. I'm not sure why anyone would do it any other way after watching this simple way. Works like a charm

  • thanks this worked for my phone without a problem! ... but now my hero goes really really slow any ideas why?

  • @victorisready no clue, i am sorry.

  • hey i need help i want to root my htc hero cdma but i saw the voicmail issue how would i fix it and also does this work on android 2.1 ? and also do i need to do something to the sd card or just install z4root and im good too go?

  • @Ericthepspaddict you need to just put the google addons and the cm6.1 zip on the root of the sdcard. I don't know about 2.1. my wife is running 2.2.1 and it's working fine for her. if you have any issues, please post a topic on the cyanogen forums and people that are having your issues will be able to help you. i am sorry if i sound harsh. my daughter needs my help and so do 4 other people tonight. seriously, create a cyanogen forum account and ask them please.

  • Awsome video. I have used your guide to the point on my european hero and it works perfect now. SOOOOOO much faster. I would have used forever if it wasent for your guid. Awsome again! Thanks for your efford :)

  • @sjefern no, your awesome! thank YOU for everything.

  • Thanks man. You made my Day easier. I didn't know until I watched your video that Z4 Root is out there for the Hero..Saved me a LOT of time. Thanks again!

  • @randylikesdrums That's awesome! Glad I could help. Your very welcome!

  • Nice to have somebody that speaks loud and clear. Nice Video!

  • @randylikesdrums THANK YOU! I love comments like yours! They make my day! :-)

  • @cristiano8520 i didn't Alltel made the HTC Hero as well.. That's new. I had Alltel years ago (in 2006) I heard Verizon bought them. I am sorry. i learned something new today!

  • Stupid question... to run apps off the SD card, the card needs to be partitioned w/ an ext3 file system, right? AOSP is running good now w/ a few minor bugs I'm trying to work out. I use Handcent for texting and receive two notification alerts on the same incoming text. Also I'm working on a voice mail issue. Live wallpaper doesn't wanna seem to work, either. But overall, the ROM is very snappy & crisp.

  • @utubepunk the sdcard doesn't need to be partitioned with Android 2.2. My wife just turns on her phone send them to any sd card. it's built into froyo

  • @utubepunk what voicemail issue are u having? mine was not working. i was just getting a text message notification which i still do and its annoying, but i installed the voicemail.apk that i found on the xda developers forum and flash it and voicemail its working fine.

  • @MrGilv70 hey! I always have to flash an update.zip that gives me the voicemail I thing. If I can find it, i will put it in the description.

  • @utubepunk - I just rooted my phone yesterday using "wwjoshdew" its easy and simple- about your sprint tv you dont have to worry you can find the apps on the xda dev website some apps that you might need are voicemail.apk to make sure u get visual voicemail, i also install the gingerbread keyboard. I had some issues with my exchange email pin lock wich i already resolved. whats funny i was trying to match my htc sense home and messed up my phone a few times but im an expert on flashing now :P

  • @MrGilv70 :-)

  • @MrGilv70 Yeah, this method worked on my HTC Hero. For some reason tho my phone got super slow. I flashed it w/ the AOSP, but didn't like it (sucked battery life quickly), so I used ROM Manager & Clockwork to roll it back. I'm on the hunt for those Sprint APKs & a better ROM. Any suggestions?

  • Thanks for the video. I'm new to this and I'm kinda overwhelmed. I'm going to bite the bullet and install the AOSP ROM. I've been to the XDA site and I've found very helpful posts, but I'm not sure if they're up-to-date.

I'm gonna follow your tutorials since they're newer than most instruction. Thanks!

  • @utubepunk good luck buddy! z4root is your best bet and all it takes is patience. from there, its just installed Free Rom Manager from the market, installing Clockwork Recovery through the Rom Manager app, and then installing the update.zip (after you wipe the phone in recovery)

  • @wwjoshdew Thanks, man! I'll be sure to backup everything w/ nandroid & clockwork before I flash anything. Does clockwork allow you to revert back to the original state of your phone prior to the ROM upgrade? Do I need to partition my SD card? I want a new ROM, but I still want to keep Sprint Navigation & TV. Is this possible? I'll save the rest of my questions for when I'm actually upgrading. Thanks again for the videos!

  • @utubepunk it's funny how they stress how important a backup is. it's not important because there is a link on the Sprint site to download the latest update and that will get your phone back to stock. if your stock right now, then don't freaking do a backup. I mean, you can.. But when you restore your phone, you will still have root and all the stuff you have now. NO paritioning. just place the cm6.1 update.zip on your sd card, along with the google addons, and apply the Cm6 update first.
