Its pretty stupid to see all these comments saying how good he is because of this. He only did it to help his public image. All politicians do stuff like this, they don't really care about poor people, poor people don't benefit them. Politicians might say they like the poor, but face it, the rich and middle class people are the ones they need more than anything.

Politicians will get a $4,700 pay increase, amounting to an additional $2.5 million that taxpayers will spend on congressional salaries. However poor elderly and disabled peoples living on fixed incomes get no benefit increase as usual every Jan.

only one person new he was coming but he did not tell and when they showed father matt i work with him that class room was the 5TH 7TH and 8TH grades. When he came down he was in the school hall (the cafiteria) it is the basement the biggest place in the school. the floor is ugly but we re did it. the 2 people talking to him was erys and tim they were so lucky.

This actually got me a little teary-eyed. At least he's leading by example. It was a joy to see how excited the school children were to see him :D

Man, that old guy who got some food was really touching.  He was all together until it hit him, midsentence, and he lost it.

Can you imagine? Like, being poor enough to need a food bank on Thanksgiving, and then having the President-Elect and his family give you the food. Then add all the other context of Mr. Obama's election... wow.

No, this proves that he is rumble and humane. See, what makes this country great. Is not the capitalism that crushes everyone making the poor and the rich farther apart.

What makes this country great is that the poor are never so poor that they can't eat or have the basic living standards. And the middle class has all the luxuries that one can expect.

This is not comm., this is capitalism that works. If you want to see capitalism without moderate protectionism, just go to a 3rd world country.

You've obviously never gone and worked in the communities where the poorest of the poor live. You obviously haven't seen how down and out some of these unfortunate are if you honestly believe that a soup kitchen once a day is enough to eat? How is living on the street a basic living standard? And the middle class people who got laid off and can't pay their bills is a life of luxury? If you honestly believe this country is great when people are dying, I have a bridge for you to live under.

I don't think that this country doesn't have problems. And I've said that this country needs more generosity and more equality. My point is that the goal for equality and doing things right is what makes this country great. And what made it succeed for many years.

@Stickleyroad: I agree with you that we have many problems. But the problems we have here still aren't as bad as the problems you find in 3rd world countries. What is considered middle class in many countries would be considered borderline poor here.

Still, we can do better.

Thanks for posting this. This Thanksgiving, I am beyond thankful for Barack Obama and his wonderful family. I feel like that choked-up elderly man, very special and very blessed to have Obama filling the terrible void that is our current in-name-only president.
