In response to one query or maybe a few Vaka is the Icelandic verb for awake apparently. I find this song empowering and even though it comes across as sad strangely uplifting, because I think the message acknowledges the importance of human spirit and the importance of other contributors to our lives. The pure fact that we would be lost without them since we can't live on our own dismissing other people's help.
I read the comments before watching the video and was expecting some awkward incident but what I saw was completely normal and everyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot. He didnt go to shake Jonsi's hand he mearly used a hand gesture acknoledging them and maybe Jonsi thought he was going to sake his hand but so what, he didnt really do anything embarresing for feic sakes.
I saw a video interviewing Jonsi and he himself said that the band was named when his sister, Sigourney Rose, was born.
I'm not saying I am right and you are wrong, I'm saying that's what I saw on an interview with him once. Don't know what else to say, except that calling someone an idiot for saying what they think is her name reminds me of something a ten year old would say.
I called him an idiot because he is wrong. I don't see any proof of your so called video interview. If you look on the official Sigur Ros website, it'll say the band is named after Jonsi's sister (Sigurros), was born around the same time the band formed. So as a sort of tribute, he named the band Sigur Ros.

sigur ros are my favourite band in the world, jonsi is a living legend and one of the most understated vocalists i know of, didn't know he had a tatoo on his left hand :O , i heard he has a glass eye and is gay, cant wait to see them play in southampton in july, thnks for the vid :)
