well I can't say if it is a smart idea to gain so much weight, just for a role, because your health should be taken into account. Going up and down in weight I heard is bad for your heart, and in the end, if you don't have your heart you don't have an acting career. I don't think I would do it, under that fear of doing irreversable harm to my body.
...and 50 lbs is not too extreme for them. There are also a lot of other deals that can happen by getting fat and shedding back down. Any diet program gets publicity and you can get money from their endorsements, or workout programs and such and such. Gaining and losing that 50lbs could get you a lot more endorsements besides just the $100K. I'd love to have that kind of money! And for me personally, it'd be cool for once in my life to actually be over 200 lbs. DAMN.
50 lbs of pure fat is would be disgustingly gross, but $100K is A LOT of money. Plus is it JUST for the weight gain, or does it include whatever film acting is involved?? If it included then MAYBE, but JUST for the weight gain alone, why not?? Especially if you want to be taken seriously as an actor. Plus there are all other kinds of things to consider. Is it pure fat, or can you gain muscle along the way too?? Bodybuilders constantly have gain and shed cycles...
Heck no! The resulting loose skin and boob sag would take a while to tighten back up again, even after I got back in shape... IF it ever tightened back to what it was before. And imagine the discomfort, joint pain, and STRETCH MARKS. No thanks.
The sad thing is 100K can get lost or squandered pretty fast. But people who can intelligently manage 100K, can usually make $ without resorting to this.
However, I understand 4 example, Raoul Julia getting fat for a film like Kiss of the Spider Woman.
I'm an actress in LA and so this was an interesting question I haven't thought about :) I think it would depend on the role really, and if I did it I would make sure they hired a special nutritionist and trainer for me so I can try to stay fit and healthy as possible.
I think I would xD gaining weight is fun- you get to eat whatever you want whenever you want! you don't have to worry about maintaining your weight. Doing it for a role gives you an excuse to gorge. And besides, you can always lose the weight if you work hard.
apparently it was really difficult for renee zellweger to gain that weight and she had to practically gorge herself because she has a mesomorph body shape and was very naturally skinny. i think thats awful and would hope she didn't have to go through it again.
i wouldn't do it but just because i've always had a problem with my weight and i'm scarred for life even if i lose weight i'm always going to think i'm fat. being fat is my biggest concern and confidence killer so no i wouldnt do it i'm tired of being fat. now, if i were skinny yeah i would.
Absolutely not. I think it is just unhealthy. If I needed to put on the weight to be healthy I would but not simply because some director wants me to, regardless of the amount of money.
Nah No Way gaining Weight for money aint tha way, as soon as you gain weight willlingly you get lazier unwillingly and just let loose meaning get fatter...
I dont really trust no ones cooking but mine.. really haha =]
plus that time losing weight for the kilos you gained could be done bulking up and shredding :P
I would gain weight for a role, but that's because my biggest dream ever is to be an actress. If I went to an audition and the casting people said I was perfect for the part, but I needed to gain some weight, I wouldn't hesitate for a second. Like you said, for a movie role I'd prob earn enough money to hire a personal trainer who could help me get fit. I want to be an actress for the experience, not for the money. I would never gain weight just to get money by competing in a diet show. Never.
I would not do it for any amount of money. I have researched these diets of christian bale, matt damon, adrien brody and it is so bad for you. they forget to mention that they also run 10 miles a day while only on small protein.matt damon needed medical attention for months to restore his health..no way.
Gaining weight for a roll is no big deal when you can afford trainers and chefs, and steroids (and as a last resort plastic surgeons) to help you lose weight
I'd gain the weight for the role, personally. The orignal Bridget Jones' Diary was cute- and she didn't look beastly, just curvy. A fat suit has a way of making people look morbidly obese when they should really look average.
Also, as long as I could control the weight gain, I wouldn't worry about working it off- I'd just have to hire the trainer and get down to buisness. I'm guessing that Renee is afraid that the newest movie won't make enough to be worth working it all back off.
For a one-time thing, I have no problem gaining weight for a role -- especially THEIR kind of money, because as you said, I'd definitely have the money to get myself a trainer to help lose it again.
Doing it repeatedly though would make me feel a little weird about what I'm putting my body through.
I wouldn't want to get fat or disgustingly skinny for a role. But kudos to whoever would. It shows dedication and it shows that they want to fit the part in every way that they can.
PEOPLE R JUST DESTROYING THEMSELF BY DOING THAT

NO! I'd rather lose it. Just having to get all those stretch marks that never go away no matter what. I'd wear a fat suit.

Depends on the amount of weight. If it was 30lbs, and not all of it in a short amount of time, I would do it
Hope you win tonight Sarah!! I voted often!

Would you lose 50 pounds for a role? Is gaining 50 pounds any better? constantly losing and gaining weight isn't healthy period.
