Nellie is one in a million. It is so great that artists like her exist, and that they actually get recording deals. How could someone not be in love with her after watching this?!
I love Nellie! I just bought 2 copies of "Blueberry Pie" for my mom and mother-n-law. What's so funny is that I was playing some of Nellie's music from YouTube loudly. My 20yr old son overhears and says "who is that?" she has a great voice. He is studying music programming at the Atlanta Institute of Music" and isn't into mainstream music at all. I found that very interesting that he recognized Nellie's voice as being really awesome....she bridges all generations.
I know that there has been a long time connection for Nellie McKay to Doris Day, but I hear something additionally...at least when she talks. Conversationally she seems to channel Dinah Shore for me. Nellie has lived in many places, although I think never in Dinah Shore's Alabama, whose lilt Ms. Shore retained in her speech all her life. Nellie has captured a breath of Dinah's essence and the smile in her voice, too.
And thank you TED. Nellie is so sweet, so beautiful. She is having a great time. Lucky we are to get to share in that. Thank you, Nellie!

I recommend that she sing some Ruth Etting's songs.
Doris Day played the life of Ruth Etting in the film Love Me or Leave Me...
