You'll have to help me figure this out, because as far as I can tell, I don't see what "Indigenous people" have contributed that warrants them having a holiday. Nearly every racial group have had terrible acts committed against their people, yet, the majority of them were able to rebound, without taking money from their "oppressors" so long after such acts have occurred. If they want people to have a day to celebrate "Indigenous people," do something that's actually worth celebrating.

What this video fails to recognize is that cultural atrocities were committed centuries before Columbus, especially by those Native Americans and African-Americans (And Africans) that were portrayed in this video. Africans SOLD AFRICANS into slavery, as acts of slave capturing for profit as they existed in tribal societies. Native Americans utilized mild slave labor, but warring tribes would sometimes drive others to extinction. Read up on your own cultures, find out what you're skimming over.

Here's an inconvenient thought: Without Columbus, everyone in that above video wouldn't have existed a la the butterfly effect. Furthermore, without Columbus, another European would've inevitably "discovered" the new world anyway. And if a European nation didn't, then an Asian one would've and they would be the ones who would colonize the land and raze all those North American civilizations and cultures. History is bittersweet but is history none-the-less.

Besides, if we start doing this, we'll eventually have to end all holidays. Turks in Turkey celebrate their victories against the Greeks who they literally eradicated from Anatolia. Is that fair? No, but it's history.

The violent and cannibal tribe kept attacking, stealing from, and capturing Taino natives. The Spanish sent out search parties to return the stolen people and attack the offenders. According to what I've heard, Australia has a day of remembrance called "Sorry Day" in which the government and whites as a whole ask for forgiveness from the aborigines and resolve to make reparations for the harm the white ancestors may have done. Maybe the USA and the UK should cultivate a similar holiday or ritual. Have a Native Americans Day or something like that.

There really wasn't that many indigenous people in America when the white man came. This land was pretty much wide open. Sure some got fucked over. But in comparison to, say the Roman empire, or any other land takeover in history, not too many people suffered in comparison.
